Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

While there is no reason why a registered disabled person shouldn't have a very nice car, I did a bit of a loose survey while walking around the Gardens and Ladder roads over the last couple of weeks.

I counted 26 different cars parked up with blue disabled badges around the area. They were almost exclusively Range Rovers, large white Audi's, 5 series BMW's and even one Porsche!

Life is either getting a bit better for disabled people in London (which would be great) or something is afoot.

Unless you are ‘Penguin’ then my point about envy doesn’t relate to you.

My apologies, when I read “It’s interesting that most of those talking about people abusing the system are those that don’t use/need badges” meant that it was in response to more than one persons post

We had a similar problem- the owners of our neighbouring property regularly used a blue badge for their large Mercedes can, driven down from the Midlands by the holder who was admittedly elderly, but then worked on the building site for the whole day. He occupied a space that another resident was desperate need of. I flagged it up with a warden who again said nothing he can do. I took footage of the holder using heavy machinery and forwarded it to the issuing authority. The guy still has his badge. There’s certainly loads of abuse happening with the scheme - sadly. And with local governments cuts even less done about it.

Disability charity, Scope, have expressed concern about misuse, theft and lack of prosecutions

And Haringey/Met Police do take some action - extracted from

Six fraudulent blue badges were seized and a vehicle was towed away this week. Blue badges are vital for disabled drivers and we will continue to take action against anyone who is caught misusing them.

8 June 2017
• We recovered five lost or stolen blue badges and five vehicles were removed to the pound as part of Operation Bodmin with the police. Two cars were displaying stolen blue badges. Another three drivers were caught misusing a family member’s badge and were issued with a Penalty Charge Notice and had the badge confiscated.

14 May 2017
• We seized 5 blue badges in N17 for misuse as part of a mission called Operation Bodmin.

There's a report here on Op Bodmin - it started on Green Lanes "As soon as the public saw there was a visible police presence and it became apparent that Blue Badges were being checked it was surprising, or perhaps not, the number of vehicles further down the street that suddenly had to leave." PC Carter was on the case in 2016 -

And the Council were active in mid-2017

Interesting when you start to Google - US$500K's worth of Italian car - do I win?

Yes but can I claim runner-up with bonuses.

Bentley vs Ferrari, but bonuses for at a Spurs match and 'Birds of a Feather' Chigwell driver!

Apologies if I've overlooked this point already made in this thread.
Carers of disabled children may sometimes be entitled to a blue badge.  But again, only when the child concerned is being carried in the vehicle. A further detail: the disability is not always obvious. Nor is it always continuous.

"Do not judge another person until you have stood in their place"  seems a useful principle.

I think you need to read the headline again Alan.

Sorry John, I don't get your point.

Here's an older thread, on the info set needed to report a suspiciously-used Blue Badge, crucially the badge numbers as well as car reg/location/time etc. From 2009 but still valid.
