Hello,
Sorry about this: but has the parking permit criteria changed? There used to be and it still states on the permit application that there is 7ft height rule! I have challenged this on several vehicles and the council say it is permissible.
Just to confirm my Colonel Blimp credentials have noticed a multi occupancy house on our road: and wonder whether it is legal: also don't want to throw out innnocent tenants but have to stop the rot somewhere! Where can I find out?

The council want the money from those vans too. I'm glad there isn't one parked out the front of my house.

Before the 'dreaded CPZ' we use to have upto seven Luton style vans parked on Allison Road from one corner shop. Thankfully when the CPZs came in they didn't want to pay the business rates for seven van permits

On the multi-occupancy house, you could start by going to this Haringey site and seeing whether there has ever been any planning application for that address.
Also worth looking at the Action on Housing pages on this site (here) as they will have lots of similar stories (which will either gladden your heart and make you feel you are not alone or fill you with deep despair ...).

I have asked the council to enforce the 7ft rule too but they denied it existed and would not investigate. They did not understand that having a huge vehicle parked directly outside for a long time is a problem and that they had a responsibility to do something about it. It blocks the light, you can't see the street or anything happening outside, and you feel unsafe walking to your front door at night.....

Interesting. I quote from the residents' application form
I hereby certify that:
• The vehicle does not exceed 2.27 (7.45 feet) metres in height and 5.25 (17.22 feet) metres in length.
I have just found the Business Permit and it states:
The vehicle does not exceed 2.27 metres (7’6’’) in height and 5.25 metres (17’3’’) in length.
So it does exist and is not being applied.
