Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

hi there

I am now in possession of a large envelope from RNIB for used stamps. I've got space for a few more so if you've got a handful or two and want to pass on, I'll take what I can.

Charities like the RNIB can make a bit of money from used stamps.

They asked for the stamps to be trimmed with at least 1cm around them if possible.

Please DM me if you have any. Thanks!

Ruth- are you going to send them direct or do you want to let me take them and amalgamate with what ever I get from folks over Christmas?

hi Justin, I'll send it direct I think. It's a proper envelope with prepaid service etc so thought I'd give that a try. If you want to hand over any to me before Xmas, I could get them off in this envelope  and then you've got a bit more space? Let me know. All the best, Ruth

I will do that- message me your address.

They are worth a small amount when put into collections even the bog standard ones. And any special editions such as Xmas etc are worth a little bit too. It all adds up.

I had a very good friend, knew him for 30 years, and he spent most of his retirement sorting through bags and box loads of stamps for Oxfam. Tireless man, dedicated to the cause. Over the years his work alone helped to raise something like 20 grand I think.... Sadly he passed away this year and I feel I have to do some small bit of stamp collecting at least.

I can't answer that really as I'm no expert! Why is anything worth anything? Nothing in this world has any intrinsic value I guess!  If people want to collect a complete set of stamps and willing to pay for it then it becomes worth something. Stamp collecting has been going on since stamps were first invented. My main thing is to get stamps to pass on and raise some money for charity and do some recycling in the process....

To someone in Japan (say) who will never get a letter form the UK with a first class stamp on this is possibly of value if they are a collector. So, what happens is these UK stamps are shipped overseas and mixed with other stamps from other countries to form what is called kilowear (ie, stamps by the bag).

So basically, as a collector of lower value stamps (like most young children who are keen on stamps) you can build a collection relatively easily without having to have had the stamp posted to you on a piece of mail.

Occasionally you get some stamps that are worth larger amounts, and these can be picked out and sold to dealers.

All good then. Start collecting those stamps eh Spiderman!

Every little helps....

Spiderman, I meant every little helps in terms of money, I mean you making cash donations. All good!

I have some, When do you need them by. Wont have time this week to sort out.

hi Michele, no rush. Thanks to a bag full today from Justin that envelope is already full and ready for posting. I'll be getting another envelope in a short while so watch this space!
