Scientists, on the whole, agree that science can't progress without animals.
Perhaps the Green Party knows something that the scientists don't. If so, why are they keeping it to themselves?
All drugs in the UK are tested on animals due to legal obligations, not scientific. Most breakthroughs come via non-animal testing, although all drugs have to be tested on animals (legally, even if there is no basis for this) and there is no coincidence that nine out of ten drugs never make the shelves. Human animals are the real guinea pigs.
I dispute the suggestion that "Most breakthroughs come via non-animal testing"
Define "breakthrough"
In what fields of medicine?
I'm sure that lots of brilliant research into, say, cough medicines can be done without animal research, but when it comes to cancer, I don't think there's a serious cancer research scientist that opposes vivisection.
If non-animal testing is so effective, why do so many scientists risk their lives to continue their research? Scientists don't do stuff unless it furthers their research; that, in essence, is what science is.
That Times article was so badly written and so biased. Hmmm, wonder who The Times are backing; oh yes of course, it's the Tories!
I'll let this comment do the talking;
Interesting article but some selective quoting:
"ban on the harmful use of animals" - yes it's in the manifesto.
"abolition of all zoos" - partial quoting: "The abolition of zoos (except for the benefit of the animals concerned)
"ban all experiments on embryos" - misquote: "ban on all cloning and genetic manipulation of embryos, whether for research, therapeutic or reproductive purposes"
"complementary therapies within NHS" - yes, but NICE have also suggested this - admittedly to the distain of professionals - see Times article
Go on all you wanna be Tory voters ... go out there tomorrow and vote Tory. I dare you to!
