When visiting Cambridge last month I saw a true pedal power enthusiast making haste to pull away quickly when the traffic lights turned green. The bus driver behind her seemed quite content to proceed at her pace. The legend on the side of the basket reads bakfiets.nl and led me to the following Dutch web-site: http://www.bakfiets.com/ showing a maker of cargo bikes.

There are a lot of them in the city now. They seem to be able to go quite fast when they're empty.

Literally "box bike".
Some of them are speedy from the lights cos they have e-assist: electric motors to help the pedalling! Which definitely helps with a heavier load. Very good alternatives to cars for the school run, and the grocery shopping...
