Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I was just in Sainsbury's on Green Lanes and was appalled to see the way people are panic-buying. I was unable to buy pasta or soup. And the sight of so many people filling their trolleys with toilet roll made me want to scream!!! Totally pathetic and unnecessary!

Some people were clearly loving the drama but giving no thought to those who might now not be able to get the small supplies they need. Should be ashamed!!!

But, if people buy hundreds of toilet rolls now, they're not going to need to buy any more for years.

I doubt millions of people on statutory sick pay is good for the economy. All the bog roll in world won't change that.

Exactly!

Beyond the positive environmental economic benefits (eg cleaner air) , I see very little benefit to the economy. In fact, I'd recommend that we prepare for a depression. Brexit should be pushed back, like the football!

I don’t know how many times this has to be said, social distancing measures are in place to protect vulnerable people - older people, people with chronic illnesses. You’ll probably be fine, but you could be spreading the virus to other people who will not be. Not everyone is symptomatic. The NHS is not prepared for the numbers of people it will have to treat, and the UK is projected for a steeper mortality rate than Italy. Please consider other people and don’t continue to go about your daily life as normal just because you’ll probably be ok (and some younger people are hospitalised - you’d want there to be NHS staff available to treat you).

It's time like this, people's real character shines through.

That's what really depresses me. Watching all the idiots hoarding items they are not going to use and they are my neighbours. I was not wishing them well...

I was there today. Its insane. The staff told me that customers were queuing from 6am.

I almost felt a bit silly with just a few fruit and veg. But the two women behind me had even fewer items so I think all is not lost.

You shouldn't feel silly. We should not be shopping like maniacs. I ended up only buying a few items because everything I went in to buy had run out!

I wanted to turn left-over bananas into a cake but it took three supermarkets to find baking powder, are people really going to do a lot of baking at a time like this? Also in short supply today was muesli, plain and self raising flour and powdered milk, on top of the usual suspects.

Don't worry, folks.  You'll see most of these toilet rolls on the black market at triple the price when we reach the Peak five or ten weeks from now. As in Guyana in the 1980s; Caracas over the past decade; Sierra Leone & Liberia during the 2014-15 Ebola. Welcome to the Turd World.
