Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I don't say this about every incident in connection with the local council, but I confess to being impressed:

Following my complaint, via a local councilor, about graffiti on the Oakfield Road bridge (the first such incident since proper walls were erected within the last few years), I had a call from the council this morning.

I was told that the graffiti would be removed by tomorrow. I was hopeful, but didn't entirely believe this undertaking.

Well, I'm delighted to report that the offending graffiti was not only removed by this afternoon, but Haringey's crack Graffiti team have made a excellent job of it. So much so, it is not possible to tell that graffiti was there in the first place.

I have always been very very impressed with the graffiti removal service in Haringey, which is why I always urge people to report it no matter how small because HC do a damn fine job of removing all trace from pretty much any surface.

You say that, but when I tried calling them about this...

On a similar theme of giving credit where it's due I recently reported a broken down fence in Belmont Rec which is now looking good as new, and a missed recycling collection on my street which was sorted the next day.

Hugh & Liz, warning bells ringing! It's clear that either Clive's HoL password has been hacked by some undercover Council apparatchik or he's been replaced Stepford-style.

"Delighted to report", indeed!

No hack Alan, only praise where its due. I was genuinely impressed with the job done.

If all of the council operated at the level of efficiency, effectiveness (and courtesy) of the Graffiti team, Haringey would receive no brickbats, only bouquets.

Not everyone understands the importance of the Oakfield Road railway bridge. Local residents once invited the then Chairman of the GLA Transport Committee to inspect the previous corrugated iron sides to the bridge, which looked straight out of the third-world. And it was long a fly-tipping area.

Graffiti that lingers makes places look un-cared for, which encourages further, even less desirable behaviour.

I would echo Liz's comment about anyone seeing graffiti to get in touch with the council's graffiti team.

THIS is the link to report graffiti and this is the Council's vandalism and graffiti page.

Imposter! What have you done with the real Clive Carter? Is he safe and looked after in your nefarious clutches?

What are your ransom demands? How much will we have to raise to get you not to release him?

POSTSCRIPT: I have bad news and good news.

The battle for the Oakfield Road Bridge is continuing and so far the community is winning. Following the excellent job done by the council graffiti team, some little local feral youf/s went back and put up some more, a smaller area this time, with what I believe is known in certain circles as a 'tag'.

Following its reporting to the council by a neighbour, a complete removal job has been done – once again. I don't know how they do such a good job, but they do.

I hope the little *&^%$£@/s who does this feels they are wasting their time.

My only regret is that as far as I am aware, the perpetrator/s has not been apprehended. IMO they need to be horse whipped, punished severely and receive a lesson in civics.
