Today's treat from Harringay's High Street: Cezerye from Hot Nuts

As many of you will know, I am a big fan of Kofali (Hot Nuts). It's extremely hard for me to go in there for just one thing. I often leave with shopping bags full of dried fruit, sweets and popcorn.

I also like the fact that if you ask what something is, they give you a piece to try.

Today's little treat was Cezerye, which has the same sort of texture as Turkish Delight. The shop assistant wasn't sure how it was made, so when I got home I googled it and was surprised to find that it is made from carrots!

As Wikipedia explains:

Cezerye is a semi-gelatinous Turkish confectionery made from caramelised carrots, packed with nuts or pistachios and sprinkled with shredded coconut. Cut into roughly 1" x 1.5" rectangular chips and served on special occasions, it is somewhat akin to Turkish Delights and the Chinese walnut candy known as hetao tang. It is traditionally believed to be an aphrodisiac. The name is derived from the word "cezer", which means "carrot" in Arabic.

They didn't mention in the shop the bit about the aphrodisiac though
