Someone was asserting that Tesco's wlll be closing for 6 weeks from this week.
I didn't get a chance to check it out myself due to random moped phone crime but perhaps something to do with this...

You mean... It will be even worse?!
... apparently called "Jack's" as a tribute to Dame Shirley Porter's father...
1 Which Tesco branch - Harringay Green Lanes, or Stroud Green, or....
2 Of the five locations in this report https://www.theguardian.com/business/2018/jul/22/tesco-discount-cha... , two are sites Tesco were preparing to open before their meltdown a few years ago, one's a store about to close, and one is a store in Wandsworth. It seems from the report that it will be the medium-size Metro stores most in line for conversion, e.g. similar to Lidl at Finsbury Park.
Green Lanes but as I say I don't know the veracity
As a location for an experimental alternative format this makes sense. High density of competition, high footfall, reasonably price sensitive clientele. Haven’t set foot in Tesco for years though.
Spoke to one of the staff - apparently closed for a refurb for 7 weeks.
No "Jacks" for good or bad.
Thanks for the info.
On the 'Jacks' thing, my two penn'orth is that the Stroud Green Metro branch would be a candidate - right size, right catchment, in need of a refurb. We'll see in time.
And two competing Sainsburys Locals, one each at either end of Stroud Green Road now.

The timing seems to fit

Hope when it re-opens they've
(1) lowered the migraine-inducing lighting
(2) got rid of the repulsive smell
(3) unjammed the self-serve machines that only ever take cards
(4) unhidden the milk
....
I think (3) is policy - seems to be the way in most local Tescos
I was told earlier in the week by the staff at the Tesco branch on Green Lanes, near the junction with St Ann's Road, that they are closing on 29 July until 11 September for a major refurbishment. I shop there quite often, and the shop has needed work for a long time (eg the cooler cabinets which keep breaking down, and almost always leak water). So it may be that in the end it will be an improvement. In the meantime, the next nearest Tesco local branch is the one on Wood Green High Street, close to Turnpike Lane.
