Dear Harringay residents,
Haringey Council's Highways team has once again asked local councillors to suggest roads that should be considered for maintenance (e.g. road resurfacing, pavements, street lighting etc.) in the next financial year (April 2024-March 2025). As you may recall, last year Zena and I had succeeded in including Hampden Road, Hewitt Road and Beresford Road in the list for this financial year.
If you would like me to nominate specific roads in Harringay ward for maintenance, I'd be very happy to hear from you on Anna.Abela@haringey.gov.uk.
I would be grateful if you could kindly include the following information in your email:
Of course, as this is a Borough-wide exercise, I expect that only a few Harringay roads will be included in the final programme of works, so I would encourage residents to focus their suggestions on the roads that are in greatest need of maintenance.
In order to give me enough time to submit my response ahead of the deadline, I'd be grateful to receive your suggestions by 20th August.
I look forward to receiving your suggestions.
Kind regards,
Anna Abela
Ward Councillor for Harringay ward

Anna. Really good to see you reaching out to engage with residents like this.
It occurred to me a few weeks back that Green Lanes looks pretty grim and the pavement is dirty and dangerously uneven in a great many places. My suggestion would be to (1) give the pavement a clean and get some of the grime off and (2) identify the uneven areas and remediate them before someone falls and you have a claim against the council. There are a lot of spots where the slabs are broken and these should be replaced.
Hi Justin,
Thanks for your suggestion. I have reflected this in my response to the questionnaire.
Best wishes,
Anna
Hi Sarah,
Thanks for your reply. You should write to the councillors responsible for the relevant ward. They have all received the same questionnaire from the Highways Team and have been asked to nominate roads in their ward for consideration in next year's maintenance programme.
You can find the relevant councillors for each Haringey ward and their contact details here: https://www.minutes.haringey.gov.uk/mgMemberIndex.aspx?FN=WARD&...
Best wishes,
Anna
Hi Anna. I’d like to nominate the completion of the footpaths on Warham Road. At the moment the odd number side of the road has paving slabs from Green Lanes to the bridge over the New River then tarmac up to Wightman Road. On the even number side of the road there are paving slabs from Green Lanes up to about number 100 then tarmac the rest of the way to Wightman Road. When it was started about 5 or 6 years ago the plan was to have paving slabs for the entire length of the street on both sides from Green Lames to Wightman but it stopped as was never restarted. Thanks.
PS - can I echo Justin’s plea about Green Lanes. It needs a regular schedule of deep cleaning and replacement of slabs damaged by vehicles mounting the footpath.
