Problem with Sainsbury’s Identifying and Prioritising Vulnerable People for Online Shopping

Hello neighbours,

I am one the people with many underlying health issues, who received the official letter from the government identifying me as a vulnerable person. Theoretically, supermarkets should have received the government database of people who received this. Therefore, as a long-standing Sainsbury’s online shopper I should be on the Sainsbury’s list prioritising me, but I am not.

Having tried to phone them many times to explain, there is no opportunity to talk to a real person or an opportunity to email anyone. All I get is the attached screenshot saying that they can’t identify me as a vulnerable person.

If anyone has any ideas of how to contact them I’d really appreciate this. Publishing it may also help others facing same issue.

At the moment, I am lucky to have good friends and family locally who are fit enough to help me, but it would be good to have a back up plan in case they fall ill. Needless to say, I’ll also contact the support group on HOL if I need to. (Good to see HOL and volunteers doing this).

Thanks all. Stay safe

Thanks Madeline, I am over the moon Xx

UCan I ask, was that a normal slot or a priority one?

And I too have managed to book a (priority) slot for three weeks time. I didn't really want one any earlier than that.

And for anyone that doesn't know, There are only two Tescos priority slots per day, each for 8 hours. But they do contact you nearer the time with an ETA.

That’s good

The criteria do not take into account underlying conditions which are not cancer related, which I think is a disgrace.  I was told by my GP to stay home and I have not gone out of my house for three weeks.  I have been a loyal shopper at Sainsbury’s for about 25 years.  I was so incensed by trying to phone Sainsburys 74 times and not being able to speak to a person thatI wrote to the CEO of Sainsbury’s with a copy to David Lammy.  I received a very nice letter from Mr Lammy’s office but nothing from Sainsbury’s.  Frankly, I’ll not be going out of my way to shop at Sainsburys again when this is over.  I wish I could give you a more positive information, but I don’t have any.

It does also include the conditions below Laura

  • have a severe respiratory condition - including cystic fibrosis, severe asthma or severe COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
  • have a rare disease or inborn error of metabolism that significantly increases your risk of infection - for example SCID or homozygous sickle cell
