Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

There have been a few discussions on HoL about parking restrictions in GLA and GLB, here is one from 2011.

We went to Parkview yesterday for something and thought it best to work out the parking situation before hand as it was pre-18:30.

So, I went onto the Haringey web site and found 2 different maps

This one:

Green Lanes CPZ

And, this one that I cannot embed into the page as it is too big apparently.

The second one shows GLB extending a bit further east.

Ignoring the inconstancy for a moment, I was struck by the fact that the Garden's were in GLA. Tell me if I am wrong but I thought they were GLB. So, I checked with the council (not so) hot line and after 15 mins I was told, when asked if GLA can park in GLB, a flat NO.  I have say I was a bit surprised as I thought GLA could park in GLB, sadly I cannot find the email from the parking bods from some time back confirming this.

What am I missing here?

I'd love to know the logic of how the zone boundaries for drawn. Why are at the Disraeli roads at the south end of the Ladder GLB, for instance?

They are now, they weren't originally.

In the Feb 2000 booklet launching the Green Lanes CPZ they're mapped as GLA. By March 2002 they're GLB, on a map proposing the northern extension of GLB (St Ann's Rd area).

As to why, perhaps residents lobbied that they were as far away from the shopping 'main drag' of Grand Parade as Hermitage Rd, so they should have more moderate hours.

Perhaps Brian Haley would know??

Lots of people seem to have had emails telling them they can park in either. We've never had any bother using resident or visitors permits in either (we moved from A to B last year) but after a spate or car related expenses I got nervous about incurring any more and earlier this year phoned the council to ask and get it in writing. I was told (after the guy on the phone spent fifteen minutes acquainting himself with the zones) that you definitely - definitely -  could not park in A with a B permit or vice versa. I asked him to check with his manager given the anecdotal evidence to the contrary and he called back to say that was still the case and you could not.

So - it seems this remains a very confusing matter for the council staff. Look forward to seeing the response you get Maggie!

Sorry, I posted a reply and then found that Justin had already included the link above.

All the quotes I used were from that link and not my own, so maybe if Julie B or Eddie still have the documents confirming that we can park with residents permits in both A sndB  (but not with visitors permits!) it would be very useful for these to be published on here so we could all use them if we get clobbered.

I checked this with Ann Cunningham, Head of Parking at Haringey some time ago and she confirmed that residents with GL A permits can park in GL B but not the other way round. I am no longer able to access my council email to double check so I have just emailed Ann for clarification.

Thanks Karen.

From Eddy (link above)  "With a resident permit for Green lanes B you can park in the green lanes A zone.  I ve got the orginal documentation from when the scheme started, thats what it says and its never been amended."

From Julie B (link above) "I have discussed this matter with the Correspondence Manager, Colin Morgan who has confirmed that as a Green Lanes B Resident permit holder you can park in the Green Lanes A Controlled Parking Zone, even on a Saturday, as long as you are displaying a valid Resident permit."

Also from Julie B, e mail from the council "I confirm that you can park in the Green Lanes A Controlled Parking Zone with a Green Lanes B resident’s permit and vice versa."

It seems that the council and parking people are still confused if they have told Gilliam M above that you cannot, and if they have never informed people of changes to the original letter that Eddy has then how are we to know otherwise?

I've done it for years and never had a problem.

I still have the emails from the council which contain the quotes above, if anyone wants a copy just PM me.

I can't see it in my emails and I can't remember who told me but my understanding that visitors permits only work in the actual zone - so I can't use my GLB visitors permits in GLA. Does anyone have anything from the council confirming this?

Karen and everyone, here's an HoL thread from July 2012 that includes Karen's reports on emails with Ann Cunningham, which may be what you want.

I think the only Green Lanes (A or B) CPZ change since then has been the early Saturday parking on Green Lanes itself plus some minor fiddling about around Colina Rd.

Great, thanks guys. So the Gardens have always been GLA then? My mistake...

Thanks for finding that thread Gordon. As I said I have once again asked Ann Cunningham to confirm just to be safe, since there does seem to be a fair a amount of confusion.

Indeed!
