Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Someone on Pemberton Rd, several doors along from me, regularly saves the parking space outside their house with two wheelie bins. I first noticed this during the summer. I thought it might be to save a space for a builders’ van if they were having work done, so I cut them some slack,  but it’s been going on for months now. It’s so frustrating when I come home late and that is the only “free” parking space in the road.

Surely it’s not acceptable? I’m tempted to move the bins but am a bit scared if repercussions.

Any thoughts?

You can report obstructions to the roadway to the council.

That way the council can help the person if they need to register the space for disabled use, if relevant, or otherwise remind them not to be selfish.

Elaine. Hi, I live on Pemby, I have previously sent you a connection request, happy to have a chat and see if we know how it is.

I would takes the bins for a walk and leave them in an adjacent street!

I did exactly that with a similarly selfish neighbour - the problem stopped after a couple of bin moves!

Thats a great idea... Not having a bin is far worse than not having a parking space 😂 in the past ive walked off with traffic cones too but that would be less hassle than a lost bin

It is actually illegal to reserve a parking space this way. Even when my mum died we had to get permission from Haringey to reserve for the funeral car. Saying that I would let the wardens report it. If the bins were not there you still probably wouldn't get a parking space so you are not better off anyway !
