Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi all

This year we have had two recycling garden bags gone missing from our property.

This week I put mine out on Monday (for Wednesday's collection) and come Wednesday evening when I got home from work, my garden bag was no where to be seen.  I searched the front's of the neighbours properties but no luck.

Once I found the bag in our recycling waste bins, and I checked them as well but they were not there.  I wouldn't think these are something that someone would steal / take.

I will contact the council to send me a replacement, but its quite frustrating that this is the 2nd time this has happened this year.  I use mine quite regularly for lawn clippings and my monthly garden cleaning and getting a replacement takes forever!

Has anyone else had their garden bags gone missing?

We had a spate of this a few months ago, and I saw several piles of garden waste (noticeably square-bag-shaped) in nearby roads (mount pleasant). Presume someone too mean to buy builders bags.

Ours has been blown down the road a few times once it's empty, managed to spot it so far - but another quicker resident might think 'I'll have that since it's going spare'. The diligent Veolia people tend to stuff it into the food bin when it's windy - appreciated.

We've been through at least 3 or 4...I've always put it down to them blowing away but who knows. Perhas you should buy one of those £1.50 trackers off Ebay

What are these trackers you are talking about?

Mini GPS tracker gadget...not sure how they work.. might not have much range...
I was going to get one for my son''s school duffle coat (we went through 3 last winter)
Sounds like a good idea!

Looks great, ill get one I think!  Thanks Antoinette

Cool. Let us know how you get on with it.
I ve also had 2 go!

Since then I ve done my own stencil and stencilled the house no. and street name on the bag. At least if someone does take it they'll have to take it far away or keep it out of sight.
Excellent idea. And if it gets blown away someone might be good enough to return it.

We have our bags "abducted" so frequently (despite the huge house number in black on the bags) that we only put them out on a week that we hope one of us will be at home to pick up the empty bag immediately the council have emptied it.  I assume it is builders as they are such useful, strong bags.  It took me about 6 weeks and 3 or 4 phone calls to get a replacement last time and what particularly irritates me is that the council will only provide one bag per house and yet will collect up to 5 each week.  How does that work then?  Even in our small garden, a busy pruning session can fill more than one bag, so we have to keep the rest of the cuttings in the garden until our one bag has been emptied.  A young man at the council said we could put garden waste out in another bag, which I tried for several weeks running, but it was never emptied. *Sigh*
