There are bridge strikes like this almost every day. They cause big delays on railway lines while Network Rail assess the damage to the bridge. I hope the organisations responsible get big fines and have to pay for inspection and repair (if needed). But I bet they don't!
You say that John, and that was my fist reaction too, but I was down that way this morning and took this shot. There is usually a sign saying max height etc- I see nothing... So, not sure it was totally on the driver, especially if that individual has travelled that route many times before, perhaps in different (smaller?) vehicles.

There is a sign for northbound traffic, on the corner of Lothair Road North, warning of a 15' 9" restriction (must be old, no metric equivalent given).
I can't see, at least on Google Streetview, a corresponding southbound sign between St Ann's Rd and the bridge. I'd go and look but I'm 200 miles away...
Humour is a difficult thing to explain John but I just thought Gordon was making a humorous comment on being 200 miles away. It may be just me but I found it very funny…. and I’d had a couple of beers, which made even more so. In hindsight I perhaps shouldn’t leave comments when I have beer for company.
There is a single northbound sign there visible on Street View. Nothing in terms of advance signage (eg on the directional signage approaching the bridge from Manor House or Ducketts Common / Turnpike Lane, or at the Salisbury Road junction), or signs on the bridge itself.
I think that because double decker buses and most HGVs can clear the bridge, the need for signage was neglected, even though all bridges below 5 metres (16'6") should be signed, and certainly the lack of signage on an A road should be unacceptable.
I've checked the train running times for Tuesday morning and, while half a dozen trains ran late by 5 minutes or so at Harringay Green Lanes, none were cancelled, the line remained open. Presumably train drivers were instructed to cross the bridge at very low speed while the lorry was there, hence the delay.
