Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A Hungarian restaurant, wine bar, and deli is launching this month and next.

Situated in the Art Deco terrace next to Turnpike Lane tube, Turul Project is launching on 9th June

Chef, Levente Koppány from Budapest won the 2020 San Pellegrino Young Chef for the Central Europe Region. ( I wonder if the new restaurant will serve his signature dish of Rainbow Trout With Chervil, Forest Mushrooms And Wild Garlic - see link).

Examples from the menu, which start at £8 for starters and £16 for mains, include:

  • Goose liver, “Tokaji Aszù”, brioche, granny smith, cabbage
  • Monkfish “Paprikas”, pasta, curd cheese, sour cream
  • Hare, bread dumpling “Vadas” style, carrots
  • ‘Ludláb’ torte, brandied cherries, cherry sorbet

The wine bar, which launched on Tuesday, focuses on Hungarian wines. Open seven days a week, the wine bar will also offer bar snacks, charcuterie and cheese boards.

Great to see this start up and give the station frontage a massive improvement.  Hopefully the start of great things to come for Turnpike Lane Station

Good news.

You can also get some nice Hungarian wines from the Danube/Paprika store on Green Lanes.

They also have very tasty coffee.

This is really heartening to see – good luck to them. Things seem to be looking up for Turnpike Lane station. I sincerely hope there is more to come in this vein.

We went for dinner this week and the food (and wine) is really superb. Highly recommended!

Looks really nice, will definitely have to check it out

Time Out picked Turul Project as one of their '17 cool restaurant openings'. Their take:

'The art-deco Hungarian'

London isn't exactly overrun with Hungarian restaurants, but here to change that is Turul Project, a restaurant, wine bar and deli that's setting up shop in a 1930s art deco space which was previously attached to Turnpike Lane tube station. Founder Istvan Ruska wants to 'showcase Hungarian cuisine within a modern fine-dining setting' and on the menu you'll find hare with bread dumpling 'vadas' style, monkfish paprikas with pasta, curd cheese and sour cream, and 'ludlab' torte with brandied cherries and cherry sorbet. Don't expect the usual suspects on the wine list, either - they promise an 'unrivalled' selection of Hungarian vino, much of which is new to the UK. Step aside, savvy b.  Turul Project, 1 Turnpike Parade, Green Lanes N15 3LA.

Time Out, June 8-21 2021, p 39.    [Not currently on their website].

It’s a rehash of the press release. Time Out isn’t what it used to be!

I see this has now closed https://www.turulproject.com/ due to being burgled multiple times and their wine stock stolen. A shame to see somewhere a bit different go, although I must admit I never got round to going and it always looked very quiet.

It's being replaced by the Greenery natural cafe according to the signs.

How sad. What a horrible experience for the owners.
