They have been running down the store for months now.  Such a massive shame.  I spoke to one of the employees a couple of weeks ago expressing my concern that the store was looking shabby and wondered if it was closing down.  She said the staff were all concerned too but M&S had been denying it.

My thoughts exactly Michelle. There seems to have been a deliberate policy and not stocking the shop. Closure becomes self fulfilling.

Such a shame. End of an era.

It is going to be a difficult time for all the staff in all the stores(9 stores in total) affected. It is a shame Wood Green is up for closure/closing. I have had the great honor to know everyone and will be keeping in touch with them all.It will be a great loss for the community. Will have to take loads of pictures with the staff and with the customers that have made it a pleasure to work in Wood Green.

It brings tears to my eyes knowing that all of of my work colleagues will be going their separate ways. Just to let all the other stores know."you are getting amazing .people that are hard working and always make you smile"

Wood Green Marks and Spencer was a pioneer back in 1948:

Before the High Road store, there was a M&S Penny Bazaar in West Green Road from 1905:

This is what M&S said last November after the Outlet floor upstairs was closed:

I took my mum round Wood Green in a wheel chair last weekend. We went to m & s and BHS. She hadn't been there for a while. Afterwards she declared, 'next time, let's just go to that primark place'.

Says it all really.
Signed. Love going to M&S in wood green.
So sad - as Michelle says they have run that store down for years. When I moved to the area M&S was over two floors (no outlet) and there was also a big Habitat. Dorethy Perkins has also gone. I wonder whether Sainsbury's will expand as they could do with more space and why did M&S not expand their successfull food section, school wear, underwear etc. I guess we might get a mega bookmakers :(
Years and years back, sainsburys used to be where matalan now is. We are talking some 25 years ago. They decided to downsize and move to its current spot, highway facing. Doubt they will take over the M&s site, but of course, you never know.

Dorothy Perkins seems to have a consessions in BHS now, along with its main store next to sainsburys.

M&S food bit should be made bigger and the store revamped. Who manages it now, because it's on their shoulders that they couldn't keep it going after 77 years of being there. Such a huge shame they didn't move with the times. I get the online shopping part, but other stores seemed to have done ok for themselves.

Might be nice to have a department store like john lewis?

Sainsbury's moved location approx 12 years ago (I only know that because of the age of my children!)

Didn't JL used  to be where Pearsons was (now Primark) and then they moved to Brent Cross when it opened? And I believe Habitat was where Mothercare is now.

M&S has been going downhill for ages and I will miss it enormously if it does go.

There was even a Habitat in Wood Green at one time. Still have a rug I bought there
