Can anyone recommend a man (or woman) with a van? We're looking for someone to help with a local move. It will probably be a few hours but we're hoping to get someone who can help us move furniture as well as drive. What's the usual going rate for this sort of service?

thank you! I am too receiving very expensive quotes of 250£! our flats are 1 min away from each other and the move is only for shelves and chairs as the flat comes fully furnished and we have already moved all soft contents, so £250 for less than 2 hours seem rather expensive... but hey, I want the service so I will need to pay what they think is a fair price... but I am definitely shopping around.
£250 would be a rip off! I paid £370 for 7 hours of full on work with two men and driving to the location twice(20minutes one way).
Update: I ended up using My Safe Removals as they gave a price per hour of 50£ with van and 2 people. It was easy to book, they were fast and polite. One man was very strong and clearly much more experience in moving the furniture in tight corners etc. We used 2.5 hours, had everything packed, and didn't have any bulky items such as bed or sofa.
Advice - do speak on the phone as they initially also quoted £250 as assumed it would take 5/6h but were happy to move to per hour quote. They are literally a "man and van", they don't have any tools if something needs to dismantle or doesn't fit a narrow corner. Remember to have a parking space right near your home.
good luck!
I'm sorry I didn't reply to your other message, I never get email notifications of replies to my posts.
We ended up renting a ZipVan and just doing it ourselves. I wish we had known about the My Safe Removals option, sounds like that was a good choice.
Sorry to hear that you're not getting notifications. However, the system is working. There are perhaps a couple of things you could check.
1. Check that your settings haven't been changed to stop he emails. - follow this guide.
2. Check that the notifications aren't going to spam. You'll need to follow your own email provider's guide on this. You will be able to whitelist the HoL email address. it's probably easiest the whitelist the whole domain - @harringayoline.com.
