This notice is outside a local primary school in Harringay. It shows the teachers and support staff are getting seven weeks (less two days) for their paid summer holiday. Some of these days may be used for training.
This summer break is one of their six holiday periods around the year.
Boris Johnson, the PM, has promised a pay rise for teachers but I would prefer such a pay rise was made in exchange for teachers spending more days in the classroom.
Ofsted would not then keep complaining that most pupils underachieve in English and Maths.
The average full time worker gets 28 days paid holiday a year. This is a lot less than those working in education.

My neighbour had a class of children with very diverse needs so had to work on individual plans. I’m sure she is not alone in this. Also, it’s not just about going through set texts, it’s planning what to do to enhance them for the class
Michael Anderson, if you read my post properly, you will see I state that some days during the holiday are used for training.
Nothing to do with 'training'.
My house mate was a teacher and I was surprised and appreciative at the long hours she put in on lesson planning. The children in her class varied from those a year ahead of the syllabus to those two years behind, with some children having little English though improving at an impressive speed with large dollops of assistance, in addition a not insignificant number of children with special educational needs, learning difficulties and ADHD together with those children with severe behavioural and social problems. She sometimes had help from teaching assistants but many of these posts have been cut.
Each lesson of each subject, be it English or science etc was geared to each individual childs needs and planned for in what was a 'normal' class and it took weeks of planning and organising both at home and at school.
Neil you obviously have little idea of what a teacher does and I am aware that you are trolling however it may be really useful for you to actually go to a school and find out what it entails to be a teacher before rolling out the old tropes.
This very morning at 10.30 I could be watching 'Press TV', the Iranian state-sponsored TV channel (think Russia Today/RT). Partial synopsis from their website:
Interface - Iran & Superpowers
Iran’s Islamic revolution is about to enter its 40th anniversary while being faced with the US sanctions harder than ever. This is the very same America .... dangers coming from the belligerent world powers.
Neil O’Shea, Freelance Broadcaster, London Mostafa Khoshcheshm, Political analyst, Tehran
Perhaps Neil (yes, it's him) would like to address the situation of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe while he's getting paid by Iran. Rather than sounding off in confected outrage about teachers.
On his(?) website he says "I learnt about politics by debating with Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the Labour Party, while we were both elected to Haringey Council in north London. I was an elected Conservative Councillor and he was a Labour member. This is gave me the confidence, knowledge and contacts to report on politics and local issues."
"I work as a freelance television journalist specialising in reporting on the Middle East for foreign global news channels. I regularly appear on live TV to discus (sic), or explain, breaking political stories often with great care to be objective on contentious subjects, particularly the Israeli v Palestinian conflict. I'm very presentable, confident and eloquent."
His Linkedin CV (here) shows he's worked for Press TV since 2009 (nowhere else in that time), so today is not just the odd coincidental appearance, it's a regular gig.
Neil's CV includes "working as a primary and secondary school governor".
Did you take up your trolling with the school staff when you were a governor, if not why not.
Also from Neils CV - "Freelance Photo-Journalist... contributing photographer to the top British photo library Alamy."
Me too.
Literally anyone can contribute photos to Alamy the only qualifying factor is technical quality. There are over 95,000 people contributing to Alamy. At the moment Alamy has 170,547,101 photos on its books and the vast majority will not sell.
More meaningless puff from Neil.
For those of you who have NO IDEA about life for teaching assistants, teachers and other staff that work in schools. Although we might get paid DURING the holidays we don't all get paid for the holidays. Our wages are spread out monthly throughout the year like on a part-time contract. Hope that makes you feel better.
Gordon, I see your support for freedom of speech and diversity of opinion is as strong as ever. Your teachers will be proud of you. Would you like to see most newspapers banned because you don't agree with their viewpoints? If you don't accept free speech, I suggest you leave this impartial website.
Neil, you have freedom of speech rightly so though many don't, how about using it here to address the situation of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe. It's all right, the Revolutionary Guards need never know.
And I see that the previous political thread started by you, about Three North London Politicians on 1 August, (this one -- https://www.harringayonline.com/forum/topics/north-london-politicia... ) was closed to new posts a couple of days later, something normally reserved to the original poster.
Thus denying HoL members -- freedom of speech. Ye gods.
I did not know that. He is quite the troll though.
