:) I can't call him 'Mr McMullan', not because I don't respect him, but because he'll take the piss out of me for weeks and may even start giving me homework!! ;)
I'm sorry you feel Labour has been 'invisible' in Harringay, but I understand it's how you feel and I respect your viewpoint.
It's no secret that myself and Emina are friends and have been for many years as we both grew up around Harringay/St Ann's and both still live local, so any response I give, will of course be seen as biased.
But I will let you into a secret, I've comtemplated changing my number and not giving it to her as I have not had a lay in on a weekend for about 3 yrs! Every weekend Emina has been out on the 'doorstep' in Harringay ward for about 3 yrs, if not longer and she calls me to wake me up to come out with her, even bribing me with breakfast!
Personally I think she's trying to get me to do more exercise. She had me out for 7 hours yesterday and I can't even feel my legs. Sadly, I haven't lost any weight though, probably as we ate too many brownies at the St Paul's Xmas Bazaar. They were just perfection!
You are right, campaigning does increase near an election and it of course can make people feel cynical. Although, normally about 3-4 people do a 'doorstep' in non election times so it takes longer to get around and in election times it's about 10 people (35 people yesterday in Harringay) so you cover more ground and see more people. So it also can feel like an increase.
But it's not just about the 'doorstep' it is how you feel you are being represented and we as residents can only make it clear exactly what we want or we'll be just moaning. Regardless if Emina is my friend, if she becomes a Cllr she knows I'll be nagging her with a range of problems!
Anyway, I've always wanted to know, are you named after the pub or are you the guy (or girl) who owns the pub?
Ah Seema, if only I owned the pub! The 'Emporium' bit was originally Eddie.
I hope I wasn't having a go at Emina personally - I don't know her from Eve but, as she seems to have been vigorously making her mark as part of New Labour's New Harringay face, I'm certain I'll know her from Adam(ou). Nora Mulready certainly deserved our vote last time the circus was in town. Pity about the Blake connection.
Mr McMullan will certainly know I'm taking the piss, but with admiration!
OMG! Can I thank you so much. I have been ill with an ear infection and grumpy as hell, but your post has made me cry of laughter!
She's soooo 'Old Labour', she makes Owen Jones look like a UKIP member! I'm sure she has a "I'm a Bennite" tattoo somewhere too!
All I am thinking about is Emina's face when she sees this...!! .
Thanks OAE. I won't stop smiling all week now!
Seema's right about Emine. She definitely has Old Labour tendencies - so OK in my book - and has a real moral compass. As we used to say, she's got some politics. She is not like the new breed of apparatchiks and administrators who are so prevalent in national and local politics these days.

We had ours redone this year, it took a few goes. The work is subcontracted. There were several bits that did not drain properly and whole sections had to be dug up and relaid. So when it looks finished, if it hasn't rained, throw some buckets of water on the whole length. We only just caught the workmen before they took off, or we would have been stuck with puddles for ever. Maybe you will be lucky and get a skilled crew first time.
I really think that whatever ones political view is most would prefer flagstones or paving stones rather than tarmac and surely it is easier to replace a cracked paving stone than a section of tarmac should a tree cause movement. Pamish thank you for the warning and the bucket tip. Hopefully other Lausanne Road residents will heed this warning too.
I'd prefer paving slabs too (when they get around to re-doing Warham Road) but I imagine that tarmac is cheaper and also less likely to crack as it has a bit of give.
I can't really answer your question as I have no involvement with politics or the council, but it seems that with limited funding Haringey is patching up the worst areas. I know a surway took place of the Ladder roads some time ago and from what I have seen from my bike a few Ladder roads have got new tarmac, Lausanna Road is getting new footways, part of of Wightman Road has been resurfaced. Many other roads and pavements are in dire need - maybe someone here has a list of upcoming work in our hood and knows who makes these decisions?
Having read this thread I realise that I don't know the answer either. But it shouldn't be a matter of "who knows" but where everyone can easily and quickly find out. (Just like looking up your bin days.) So I emailed Tony Kennedy, Group Manager, "Sustainable" Transport.

Dear Mr Kennedy,
No parking in Lausanne Rd from 2/12/2013 to 2/01/2014. Subcontracted.
I am not sure I understand why they are cancelling all parking. Hard to see how they can work on both sides full length at once and by the number of barriers dropped at the end of the road they wont be doing so. I wonder if there is no parking whether they will also stop through traffic.
That'll be 32 days' work minus 28 days' Winterval Holiday, then?
