After it was discovered at the St Ann's Labour Party selection candidate selection meeting that there were people present and voting who should not have been, I came home from the pub (where I'd heard about it) and wrote this article. It has subsequently been edited by site admins to remove the names of people who were embarrassed or in the final case where a journalist said it was potentially libellous. Well here I will attempt to summarise what we have subsequently found out and hopefully take people's attention away from my original appalling rant.

No, he's wrong. The problem is that not enough "real" people are getting involved in these seats and wards that always go the same way. I would point the finger at political parties and say that they're happy with this situation though. Some more of us should have joined and attended these meetings. I mean there was just ONE vote in this, out of 26.
By "real" people I mean people who were not involved in politics from their student days (where one could argue that they picked up some very undemocratic habits), not trade unionists or businessmen, just normal everyday people. We consider it nerdy and not cool and this is the result.
The system is fine, this is our fault.
Oh and by the way, this is ALL so true. As soon as I put something up here that's not true they jump on it and it gets taken down!
Just a little bit more on Ed Miliband's visit to Crouch End.
I'm told that Barbara Blake, Peter Morton and Ali Ozbek were among the throng who came to greet him. As was John Blake the St Ann's ward secretary. So it could have been a really great opportunity for them to have brought Ed over to meet you. He and all the other Labour members could have quietly gathered round, to listen and learn, as you set out the facts.
But never mind, when Ed Miliband eventually reads all about the rule-breaking and signing-up of voters who don't live in St Ann's and Harringay wards, he'll be able to put names to faces.
Is there some sort of local "Citizen Journalist" award we could nominate you for? I'm sure Ed will be delighted to come back to Haringey and present it!
I had girded my loins to call out "What about St Ann's?" but there wasn't really an opportunity that was not me in a pit of snakes calling attention to my background as a rodent. That and I would have felt like I was spoiling a party and detracting from an important message.
Spectre at the feast
The Lib Dems have not come back to me about not running in St Ann's and allowing us to run three anti-corruption candidates. I suspect they are rubbing their hands with glee and are hoping that the three candidates currently selected are their opponents next May.
John- I could NEVER understand why the opposition of any party never made capital from the failings of the Labour party in St Anns Ward, but now I understand: the Labour party implode and are their own worst enemies. Where your enemy is over confident feed his ego.
I am trying to get hold of Brian Haley to comment on this as I think his view would be interesting. He was deselected (legitimately!) by the ward in 2009 and then joined the Liberal Democrats. He is on friendly terms with Charles Adje who voted for the current candidates. I would really appreciate an opposing view but online at least, there is silence.
Not so fast! I thought that too but we're all sick of local politicians who seem to have their eye on national politics and that is one thing the libdems will not be doing. If they can convince the electorate that they are better custodians of the borough, notwithstanding their rather abhorrent participation in the Tory Government, they stand a chance.
I think you'll find Mark Alexander got 1200 votes in 2010 but Karen does well in Harringay too... nothing to do with having a Greek surname. Anyway, I think it was closer to 1000 and you will need all of those and a few more to displace the Labour hold on St Ann's.
If this lunch time I could draw people's attention to this measured comment from someone in the St Ann's Labour Party in case they missed it yesterday, click HERE.
