Help clear the passage
Update: Lots of people have volunteered, so we'll all be out at 10am Sunday. My number is 07766 990123 if you need to get salt or any other problems.
Update 2: A huge thank you to all the volunteers who came out yesterday to clear the snow. We've done a fab job.
If you've walked up or down it recently you'll know that the passage is an absolute ice rink at the moment. We're not going to get any help from the council to fix it, so I'd like to get a bunch of volunteers to commit to coming out on Sunday at 10am to clear part of the passage.
There were a bunch of Ladder Dads who committed tonight, so if you'd like to join us on Sunday morning to help clear a part of passage so we can all use it to get to work, school or the shops then sign up below.
Just say which bit (e.g. Hewitt to Seymour) you'd like to work on, and we'll all meet out there around 10 am on Sunday.
Bring salt, shovels and any sand/grit you might have, and let's all make the passage a little bit safer.
I know that together we can make a difference - so let's do it.

I have a kid's party to go to this morning. Happy to help someone else after lunch or tomorrow. Have some salt too.
Sorry I'm late to the discussion, my internets must have crashed over night so the special program I have that alerts me whenever someone posts about the passage didn't work until I fixed them just now.

I'm off to buy some salt, and will be there to help out. I'm going to have a look a bit later to see which other parts require the most attention. Perhaps others could do the same and post what they see.

I live in America, but it is great to see the community coming together in times like this! Malcolm, I hope you get many more volunteers. When you say 'passage', do you mean the alley ways that run cross ways from street to street? I used to walk through them when I was young. My brother just got back to Enfield after spending a month with me in Georgia, USA. We have been having unusually cold weather also, but he said it was bone chilling in England. I hope the deep freeze thaws soon for you all.

This is all very laudable but given that some people are effectively house bound because of the ice on the pavements in front of their houses wouldn't clearing the paths of the ladder make more sense? Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the Harringay Passage but right now getting to Green Lanes from my front door is terrifying.

Yes, Green Lanes footpaths are basically clear so best use of time/salt/grit/shovel would be to clear ice on paths down to Green Lanes, if you can't walk on your road (which everyone is now doing along Falkland Rd).

I agree, but the passage should perhaps be of equal priority as it can drastically reduce the distance of a journey on foot in many cases.

If the paths leading to the passage entrance ways are impassable then whether the passage is clear or not is largely academic Steve.

Agree - equal priority is the ideal. As Malcolm said if anyone is in dire need let us know... I will gladly do my best to clear a path for you on Monday.

Hopefully Matt, folks will clear their own bit of pavement, but who else will speak for the Passage unless it's friends act and try to clear it themselves for the benefit of the community as a whole.
Actually, I guess there is another group who probably won't organise - the landlords of the HMOs!
