HARINGEY Borough is now just over half-way declared.
Highgate was first, followed by Tottenham Hale and last night, the latest Ward declared:
Noel Park makes it 10 out of 19.
I think it'd be great to see 100% of Haringey's Ward's declare for this goal. If your Ward is one of the foot-draggers, talk to your local Councillor!
Across London, currently 72 Wards declared.

Clive, what will these declarations achieve
a) by themselves
b) in terms of future funding and progress towards - well, what, exactly?
I welcome any clarification, because I'm puzzled. Not dismissive, just puzzled.
Gordon, parks and open spaces are under threat as never before. I see this as about nudging.
Well in my opinion that's not much of an explanation of b) at all - please, answer a proper question more fully.
Gordon, other Councillors who have declared their Ward's support may see it differently, whereas I see it as nudging. However, I suspect no "explanation" I could give would satisfy you.
"Not dismissive", I wrote above. Still true.
I read on the National Park City website that the organisation doesn't intend to be funded by local or central government, nor will it have any planning powers as National Park authorities do. If it's aiming to be an integrator of current park/outdoors/'green' activities and bodies, which could be useful, then how would that work vis-a-vis TfL's Walk London strand, say, or Haringey's cycling and walking maps, I'm wondering.
So I couldn't see that a ward-by-ward declaration of support supplies even a 'nudge' (to whom or what?) to further the aims of an organisation that will have no link to local councils. If it were an expression of a wish to contribute funding that would be positive, if the intention is to get Haringey Council itself to declare support then it's notionally constructive, but as it stands it looks to me like a gesture only. OK if so, but as such it's not a big deal - even in the wards that have so declared.
Hi All,
I'm heavily involved with the campaign and would be very pleased to answer any questions that you have. Different people will be wanting different things from the National Park City initiative - and I think that is only a good thing.
Declarations - The declarations are all about confirming legitimacy for this new kind of national park. While rural national parks are designated by national government, we are declaring London a National Park City from the bottom up. It is perfectly legitimate for London to self-declare itself a National Park City as the idea has its own and new definition. If two-thirds of London's electoral wards (some 1,500 local politicians) and the Mayor of London declare London should be a National Park City... this provides a sound authoritative and legitimate base. The declarations are entirely about creating a working understanding of the idea and this legitimacy.
Progress - I 100% agree with Clive.. the National Park City Initiative is all about inspiring, supporting and celebrating all kinds of actions that improve quality of life in London... not just for people, but for wildlife too. What might this look like? More children benefitting from playing outdoors... An even larger urban forest and all its benefits... better quality green spaces with more space for play, growing food and wildflowers... cleaner air... more people visiting tourist destinations outside of central London etc. etc.
Funding - Being a National Park City will bring about a great deal of social, economic and environmental benefit to London. Many businesses will want to help with, be associated with or want to realise these benefits. The National Park City Partnership will be funded by working with these businesses, but also through private and corporate giving. It will be slim, start small and scale in a sustainable way.
I hope that helps? It would be great to have your support... and/or even advice and suggestions. Please do let me know if you have any further questions.
But how can anyone support something when the goals are not yet defined ?
All sounds a bit airy-fairy right-on.
Thanks for the explanation and declaration of intent, Daniel.
WITHN the last hour, the Councillors of Seven Sisters Ward have declared their support.
11 Wards declared, eight more to go in Haringey!
