Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Has anyone else had this problem

I have just received my second penalty charge notice even though I have had a virtual resident parking permit valid since August 2021.

The first PCN was issued on 3rd February.  I submitted a challenge straight away.  I have still not heard anything from the Council.

I spoke to the Civil Enfocement Officer a few days later as he was about to issue me another PCN.  He said the system was showing my car as not having a valid permit.  He telephond my details to his control room and they responded that I had a valid permit.

On Thursday 24th February I received my second PCN.

I now understand that Haringey has recently changed contract providers for parking and that the old contractor has not forwarded resident details to the new contractor.  As a result I am sure that I am not the only person who has been incorrectly issued a PCN.

I am in my 70th year and I really could do without this unnecessary stress caused by Haringey Council Services.  The virtual parking system and then the time it is taking to resolve these issues, is in my opinion, not a service working for the residents of Haringey.

I will be contacting my ward councillors but thought I would share my experience with others on this forum.

Good luck I hope you get a result. Haringey council can't organise a drink up in a brewery though so it may take some time?

Hi Sylvia

Please do email me - zena.brabazon@haringey.gov.uk

I have been chasing parking about this for other residents and am on this issue almost daily. I think it is a systemic problem.

I will take this up to get the PCN rescinded.

Best wishes

Zena, is it correct that the council has changed provider? I mean have they ditched the shower that brought in the new system? Seems like about time.

Hi Hugh

I'll find out and let you know

Did you manage to find out, Zena?

I've seen a few cars where the 'virtual resident's permit' reference number has been written on a card and put into the windscreen plastic pocket used until now for printed permits. Just a thought.

WHY IS HARINGEY COUNCIL SO MEDIOCRE.?

Today, I received a PCN on my car despite displaying a valid paper permit issued last May.

Earlier this week, I spoke to a Civil Enforcement Officer on Beresford Road who was photographing the car, who said that the paper permit was a fake!  I got my computer and showed him the email and pdf from the council with the permit.  Although he was adamant that he had phoned the control room and the number was not on their system, he did not issue a PCN. As Parking Services are impossible to contact any sensible way, I wrote to them about this on Tuesday.

However, today there was a PCN - which I have already challenged.  Though, reading Sylvia's post, it might take a frustratingly long time to get it sorted - during which time more PCNs may be issued.

So it seems that the parking services provider has messed up both the new virtual permits AND the old paper ones.

On the 19th March I received an official response from parking services re two of the three PCNs they issued to me.  I was told in no uncertain terms that in both cases they were not going to recind the PCNs.  They said there was a sign clearly stating that it was a resident parking area and that I did not have a parking permit and no permit had been purchased.

I have had a resident parking permit at this address for the past 20 years.  As suggested I placed permit details in window in my car and since then I have not received further PCN.  Totaly do not understand why someone at parking services cannot see these details.

I have not had a response to the PCN I challenged beginning February.  I now live in dread that my car will be clamped because of non payment of PCN.

I now have to spend time once again challenging these PCNs.  Both my husband and I are recovering from Covid and really do not need to be stressed further about something that was sorted on 8th August 2021.

Oh no, that is bad news.

My PCN was cancelled, but the letter informing me said it was cancelled "on this occasion" but that it had been "properly issued" for the same reasons as you mention "there was a sign clearly stating that it was a resident parking area and that I did not have a parking permit and no permit had been purchased."  It even said no permit was displayed, despite their own photograph of the displayed permit.

When my paper permit runs out and is replaced with the virtual one, I will put the number in the windscreen immediately.

Hope you get this sorted too and the you both recover from covid.
