Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Haringey is taking "one of the biggest gambles ever to be made by local government"

See an article in the Guardian about Haringey's plans to "stuff family homes, school buildings, its biggest library and much more into a giant private fund worth £2bn".

It appears, Chris, that having nothing more to say, you question my motivation. Suggesting my views are based on personal dislike for some unspecified person or people.
If you mean yourself. Then I assure you that I don't dislike you personally. If I met and spoke to you, we might get on wonderfully.
But we've never met and spoken and all I can go on is what you post here. And on the current topic of discussion I happen think you are wrong. Nothing to do with dislike. You're just factually wrong and  mistaken.

I doubt whether any anti-Labour members of Haringey Online will take comfort from my policy disagreements with the KoberTories.

That term is neither an insult nor name-calling. Just fact. Nor is my writing about the "Progress" faction name-calling. That's their own name for themselves. It should be Regress. That's also fact.
I've never said any of these people are members of the Tory Party. They've got the same red cards I have. Cards which say we are "democratic socialists".

I'm very disappointed that you perceive the disgust I feel is "thinly disguised". I didn't adopt any disguise. Unlike people who use a made-up name, I say who I am and express my disgust as thickly or thinly as I feel it. Perhaps I need a wheelbarrow instead of a trowel. It's real disgust, and sometimes anger -  but centrally about policies and actions others take. Not personalities.

There have been many people on the right-wing and even in the cabinet who I like personally but disagree with on aspects of policy.  My objection is to the policies, plans and programmes of right-wing politicians. My disgust and rejection is about worship of markets, enthusiasm for privatisation, social cleansing, and other Tory policies beloved in Koberville.

You think my posts would be more effective if I hid the truth?  There's already more than enough lying, obfuscation, "redaction" and exempted pages of reports in our borough. We need fresh air and sunshine.

I think I got the answer by the above comments.

I just find it quite shocking, that a Labour lead area like Tottenham, along with its history of people like Grant and Corbyn, can be rather rightwing.

Need to get rid of all these self-serving people and get some real reps in the council.

The Corbyn years are coming <3

But I would like to get to know what the general vibe of the Labour party in Harringay is.

Surely it cant be rightwing labour

When you meet and talk with Cllrs, they're a very mixed bunch - all sorts of different people, bit like left-leaning people in London in general I suppose.

If you were to set them all a quiz on their left-wingness, bet you'd get a mixed-result too.

Very difficult to lump them all together to any useful effect m8.

Also, politics are not consistent, are they? One day you can be Labour and support tuition fees, the next day you want them abolished. So what use is it to have had a general opinion of how left-wing a Council was when it doesn't stop them U-Turning at a moment's notice?

See attached a recent letter from David Lammy MP to the Leader of the Council.

so Lammy is not that bad then? :O

David Lammy has come up trumps. It is a splendid letter and I am delighted it is being distributed so widely.  Our Scrutiny reports were well-evidenced, have been well-received and widely read. But the key recommendations were regrettably rejected.

But Claire's had all those £50 lunches with Peter Bingle! She is bound by those many small contracts to deliver what Peter's clients want, no matter what the electorate says, no matter what the elected member of parliament for half of her borough says, no matter what she now wants. It's also right that he objects foremost to the process, which is what I did too., we need more homes, and we need to protect them from right-to-buy.

Hi John

Of course we need more homes, but the HDV won't be providing any for the thousands of families in temporary accommodation which keep being motioned.  Having read the member agreement between LBH and Lendlease (starts p 100 of the 1400+ page appendices) I think there are several get out clauses which will mean the Council  'guarantees' to tenants can be ignored.

Regarding right to buy, wholly owned companies get out of that too. Across the country, councils of all political colours  have set up wholly owned companies because they retain control and can build council homes alongside properties for sale.  Guildford, Thurrock, Wokingham, Brighton and Hove for example.

A handful of Councils have set up these joint ventures like the HDVand we know Croydon and Tunbrdge Wells ended in tears, with oodles of money lost to taxpayers. They may have been fashionable in 2012-2014 but they aren't now.  The evidence in our second Scrutiny report explains why. It is worth reading.
