Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Why were residential roads in Highgate gritted but not ladder roads? I'm just talking the footpaths here too by the way. People are still having to walk in the middle of the road to get down my street. Tonight I was in Cromwell Rd, part of Haringey, and was very cheesed off and envious to find that it had been cleared of snow and ice and its pavements gritted. I know that Turnpike Lane's pavement was gritted on Sunday night and wasn't feeling left out because it's not a residential road...

What do they have that we don't? Oh yes, sorry I asked.

The gardens were gritted? Does anyone know if Hewitt or Alison or Beresford were gritted?
Warham and Pemberton were done this morning, if that's any help! Won't it be based on the list of priority roads? It's not random, no need to guess - here's the list of priority 1 roads and if you're really keen here's the Winter Service Plan
There’s a summary update on the Council’s website under heading Weather Conditions.

At 16:06 today Cllr Nilgun Canver, Cabinet Member for the Environment forwarded a briefing email to all councillors, from officers in the Urban Environment Department. This information is also being shared with staff in all neighbouring boroughs.

The gritting update for this afternoon, evening, overnight and weekend is as follows.

Refuse and Recycling Collections
Refuse collections for the week have been completed.
There are some recycling collections we have not been able to complete this week, mainly the Thursday and Friday collections on higher ground and hilly roads in Highgate and Muswell Hill following the snow on Wednesday night. We have looked at options to rectify this at the weekend but these are not feasible due to continuing sub-zero temperatures. We are going to take additional measures to ensure these missed collections are rectified next week against a background of on-going sub-zero temperatures and ice hazards that continue to challenge our service.

Forecast
The forecast for this afternoon and overnight is as follows. The afternoon will be mainly dry with cloud. Cloud will clear and the evening will be very cold. Cloud will build again into early morning and we will get some rain, snow and freezing rain in the very early hours giving rise to very icy roads for a time, before Road Surface Temperatures rise. Tomorrow will not be so cold.

This forecast for tonight and into tomorrow indicates that gritting timings will be crucial. Any grit laid before the rain will be washed away and re-gritting of Pavement and Carriageway Priority 1 areas immediately after the rain might not be able to completely prevent icy surfaces developing.

From Saturday through to Monday we are not expecting any more snow or rain but it will continue to be cold and ice will be a problem. Saturday night will be around freezing, Sunday night will be well below freezing.

Carriageways
We will carry out carriageway gritting work this afternoon, evening and overnight as follows;
Carriageway Priority 1 gritting from 19.00 hours tonight. (No Carriageway Priority 1A gritting tonight as no school tomorrow)
Carriageway Priority 1 gritting from approx 03.00 hours tomorrow morning

We are planning to carry out gritting work during the weekend as follows;
Carriageway Priority 1 gritting from 21.00 hours Saturday night
Carriageway Priority 1 and 1A (schools) gritting from 21.00 hours Sunday night
Selected Carriageway Priority 2 gritting to support refuse and recycling collections and for Residential Care Homes

Pavements
We will carry out pavement gritting work this afternoon, evening and overnight as follows;

Pavement Priority 1 and 1B gritting from 14.00 hours today according to need and again after the early morning rain if required. (No pavement Priority 2 gritting as no school tomorrow)

The afternoon sweeping shift will litter pick and empty litter bins in town centres and gateway areas and grit pavements only if they are seen to become icy.

We are planning to carry out gritting work during the weekend as follows;
Pavement Priority 1 and 1B gritting from 14.00 hours Saturday afternoon according to need.
Pavement Priority 1, 1B and 2 (schools) gritting 14.00 hours Sunday afternoon according to need

The afternoon and night sweeping shifts will litter pick and empty litter bins in town centres and gateway areas and grit pavements only if they are seen to become icy.

Housing Estates
Housing Estate Cleansing Teams were litter picking today. There is no Housing Estate cleansing over the weekend.

Have a good weekend and stay safe.
I want every road and pavement in the boro gritted and council tax reduced to 1p per week.
