Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

http://www.haringeyindependent.co.uk/news/11592087.Green_Lanes_rege...

Councillors are inviting constituents from St Ann’s and Harringay to an area forum this evening.

Council officers will give people an update on the progress of the regneration and construction works around Green Lanes.

There will also be an opportunity for members of the public to raise any concerns with councillors and council staff.

The meeting begins at 6.30pm at St Ann’s  library, Cissbury Road.

"There will also be an opportunity for members of the public to raise any concerns with councillors and council staff." - there will be a five minute Q&A session. The council, in broadcast mode (which they can do in Haringey People).

Bit short notice sadly.

I have a few points, but cannot make this, certainly not with less than 3 hours notice... Do you know if there is an alternative way of communicating in this modern age, email at all?

Thanks for the heads up anyway.

To be fair Justin, I was publicised a little while ago

Fair play Michael, though I would not have read the post as I was not that fussed about the St Ann's Forum.

Our wards are put together for the purposes of the area forums. It is chaired by the Harringay ward councillor Gina Adamou and all 6 councillors should be in attendance. In the past the police also attended from both wards but I'm not sure if they still do. As for forums, it's usually a packed, council-decided agenda and opportunity for debate is limited, although former chair Zena Brabazon did try to 'democratise' it during her time as a councillor.

Liz, in one area forum a while ago, I remember a notable filibuster where a council officer spoke at length as to how satisfying he found his job. The meetings were first billed as "You Talk, We Listen", but sometimes it seems more like We talk and You listen!

Zena did her best to put a stop to that and even created space for residents to address the forum, but I imagine that it has reverted back to its former broadcast mode under the re-appointed chair who used to run it back before the 2010 elections.

Alexander Stevenson (@AlSteve1 )has been tweeting quotations from his book last year, "The Public Sector - Managing the Unmanageable".  A couple are by Nick Walkley, Haringey's Chief Executive, who in Chapter 6 is reported as saying:

'What works best is bringing frontline staff face to face with end users ... that is the most creative process.'

I don't know whether Mr Walkley explains or enlarges on this thought. Especially as he is doing the opposite. Maybe he thinks an opportunity for face to face viewing is enough without any exchange of opinions, experiences and ideas.

Why doesn't Ron Blanchard chair the Forum any longer?

Ron died in August after living with Parkinson's disease for many years

Yes, Michael, I know. A good man, sincere, and (IMO) a dedicated councillor and chairman even when he was in decline. I missed his obituary here on HOL.

My point: Ron would still be a more vibrant chair of Forum or Assembly than the current revenant incumbent.

Has anyone who attended last night got a summary of the update?
