Garden produce and jam
Prospecting in our chest freezer we came across 3kg of raspberries in several plastic boxes. We needed the space so out they came, along with enough frozen apple syrup to make the jam gel properly. Here's the result, fourteen jars for this year's Christmas presents.

Sticking for a moment to raspberries, the amount of space isn't really important. I have no more than a 10 metre row of canes growing along the boundary fence. They are easy to grow (and difficult to get rid of).
Your perceptive remark about building on gardens is perhaps of wider interest and I may well respond to it in a new and separate thread.

It seems like the day for making jam Dick, I've just finished potting up 1.5 kilos of damson jam as I too needed to empty the freezer however
I'd appreciate any hints from anyone on any better way of fetching the stones out of the boiling mix other than patiently fishing for them with a couple of spoons?

It has to be my favourite jam of all. But ... those stones. I confess I keep these jars for myself alone so sadly no-one else knows how good it is.

I agree with Jennifer about damson jam being so good. Up there with blackcurrant and equally easy to make. As to getting the stones out, I seem to remember doing this after cooking the fruit but before adding the sugar. I have not tried using one of those little tools designed for pushing the stones out of uncooked cherries but it might work.
