Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I have noticed that on (what is still) Black Boy Lane, part of Hornsey Park Road, Mayes Road, and possibly elsewhere, most of the front gardens / yards have a contemporary standardised wall and boundary, with masonry tiles indicating property numbers.

Was there some kind of council regeneration scheme historically to implement these? Possibly as a way to control curtilage parking and improve the area's appearance? A residential equivalent of a shopfront improvement scheme?

A friend lived there when the scheme happened.  They offered a massive discount to owners to have a more harmonious streetscape, which I think was very successful.

I'd always wondered about this as well, it really makes the streetscape much more pleasant, and the quality of the work is great.  Knowing how much it cost me to have a nice looking brick wall built, the standard of that work would be eye watering at commercial prices.  One of the few times I have to praise the council, wish they took this much care with all the new builds popping up in the area, quality is all over the place.
