Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Have had lots of sparrows in our garden over the past few years after a long gap when only saw them at Paris railway stations  - we put seed out in hopper all year round and have enjoyed their cheery presence.

However for the past week or so there have been none. Has anyone else had this. The starlings still come and cat and fox numbers havent changed.

Still lots visit our garden (Seymour).

Glad to hear that! Off Philip Lane - but lots more crows in park - or wrong kind of seed..thanks for replying!

Many in our garden too ....  not this time of year.... The bird song as amazing this very morning ... Robins Tits Wrens

But I  do miss the  Blackbird.

Thanks - its so sad about blackbirds....

I've had one blackbird in my garden on and off the past few days

It seems a bit patchy on the Ladder.  Walking down some streets I almost always see them and in others never.  I saw one in my garden yesterday for the first time in years.

Interesting that they vary even within a short distance.

Habitat changes, too: on Umfreville by the New River bridge there was a large shrub full of sparrows a decade ago. It was then severely pruned and has now regrown somewhat, but the sparrows haven't come back.

My Merlin app detected a hedge sparrow around 3.30 today but they are much rarer in our garden than robins, wrens, great tits and blue tits.

what a wonderful panoply of birds. Its house sparrows that have vanished from our garden!

So good to hear sparrows are returning to London!

I've lived in my place for three years now and this is the first year I've seen sparrows. I'm on Philip Lane.

I disagree about their being no change to cat numbers, I keep chasing a cat out of my garden that I hadn't seen before a couple of months ago. I've also seen a different cat in the front and had to clean up some bird remains (white feathers and entrails) from my front step.
