Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Tuesday January 31st at 6.30pm in the Londesborough Room, Alexandra Palace (entrance near the Phoenix Bar).

The application for a Premises Licence to increase the number of events in Alexandra Park is about to be submitted to Haringey Council, and the Chief Executive of the Park and Palace Trust, Louise Stewart, has set up a public meeting in order to provide information about the benefit of obtaining a premises licence, the nature of the events which are being considered, the areas of the Park which would be used, and the way these events will be managed and monitored.

About time, it's pure stupidity how much that place has been underused in all these years.

It's a park and I don't think it has been underused as such.

Its the people's palace and park, if they can't make that place make a good profit for the people, its being underused.

It's all about profit is it ?

A park is for exercise, relexation , enjoyment, walking, appreciating nature. Not to be prostituted on behalf of the Council.

And, if the above notice is accurate, it's about the Park, not the Palace.

For many years part of Alexandra Park was a racecourse - presumably that raised income, according to this.

I love that word - " vaticinations "

I wonder if Leonard Sachs used it when introducing artistes on 'The Good Old Days'. Unlikely to be part of the POTUS vocabulary.

The Trust needs to increase income to make up for the withdrawal of Haringey Council's subsidy for the Park - and some types of events may indeed enhance the amenity of the park (e.g. small theatrical productions). However a big increase in the size and frequency of events (including time for setting up and taking down) could have the consequence of preventing people using other parts of the park and  stopping people going through the park to get to work, school or etc.  The management are also proposing closing the road through the park for some events, and hence the excellent W3 bus service would have to be diverted through Wood Green, which I think would be a major loss - not just to the local community, but to bus-users across Haringey. What use is a bus service if you cannot rely on it?

I understand that the W3 bus is already diverted for every Spurs home match - must be a major problem to local people.

Really ? In the that case lets just sell it and turn it into a casino.

I cant believe that place is STILL loosing public money and not making it.

No doubt you would like to see licensed marijuana kiosks ?

Turn the loss-making schools into lap-dancing clubs ?

No, I would just like the place run to a good profit for the public purse by putting on many top London events.
