I have to drop a friend and her luggage by car at Finsbury Park station on Wed morning - I used to use the back entrance for this, but it's now closed. Does anyone know where the best place to drop her off would be? Is Stroud Green Road still closed southbound?

Stroud Green Rd works were supposed to be finished on 30 Nov. Can't see a relevant flag on roadworks.org for a closure today.
As for drop-off, if your friend is reasonably mobile it's not too far to walk round the block from Wells Terrace, down Fonthill Rd and along Seven Sisters, Wells Terrace gives you more chance of a couple of minutes breathing space to decant friend and luggage. Otherwise, the traffic lights at Fonthill Rd/Seven Sisters Rd have a reasonably long red phase. Anywhere else near the front of the station involves crossing roads, Red Route enforcement, oh joy.
And you do know of the planned Piccadilly Line strike on Wednesday? Perfect (storm).
Highbury & Islington might be another option - you could look up Compton Avenue, off Canonbury Rd by Highbury Corner - that's been OK for a drop-off this last fortnight while the Piccadilly line trains have had square wheels.
Problem is she has masses of luggage and is going to Gatwick - I thought about H&I but it's a long way down to the platform. Might be best if I park on a meter somewhere near FP and help her into the station. The strike is another whole issue of course.
This is getting a bit like Baldrick's cunning plans - but it helps she's going to Gatwick.
So if you went to St Pancras, especially driving down Pancras Rd / Midland Rd along the west side of the station, there's a right turn (Brill Place, double yellows but probably OK for a drop-off), just about level with the Thameslink platforms entrance - so no tube needed at all, no changing trains, and level access plus escalators only - no steps. And it's outside the Congestion Zone. Just.
And Lauren is right about long queues to get into FP station in the morning.
Turns out there will also be strike action affecting all trains to Gatwick this week...
That's on Southern from Victoria, not the Thameslink service from St Pancras (although it will be very busy). If there is a Piccadilly line strike then the best bet would be either dropping off at St Pancras as above or dropping off at Seven Sisters so you're on the tube before it hits Finsbury Park.
Piccadilly line strike suspended, though that's only a footnote to Maddy's question. Southern strike still on.
You could also go via Hornsey Station, where you can almost always get a metered car parking space so could leave the car behind. Then go with her to Kings Cross, helping carry her luggage onto the Gatwick train.
