Don't miss the Althea McNish exhibition at the William Morris Gallery, Walthamstow

Just a quick post to say the Althea McNish exhibition at the William Morris Gallery is highly recommended. Unmissable I'd say.

With vibrant colours, themes drawn from the natural world and stunning mid-century design, the pieces are beautiful and inspiring.

Althea McNish was an internationally recognised designer, painter and teacher who lived most of her life in London in South Tottenham. You can read more about her in this special tribute written by Rose Sinclair available on the Haringey website. The design of the fabric of this dress, later named Grenada, was inspired by African daisies and zinnias in her South Tottenham garden.

It's hard to convey how beautiful her work is simply through photos, they need to be seen for real. Her most popular design was 'Golden Harvest' (pictured below) that was inspired by her first views of English wheat fields which reminded her of the sugar cane fields of her home in Trinidad

You can visit the gallery daily except Mondays and the exhibition is free although I doubt you'll get out of the gift shop without buying a little piece of that colour to take home.

Yes the link I posted above goes into some detail about the life of Althea McNish and her collaboration with Bruce Castle Museum. She was also a teacher at the famous Hornsey Art School (the campus of which is now Hornsey School for Girls).
