Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

We are looking to swap our normal size black wheelie bin for rubbish (240L) for a smaller one (140L?).

Our front yard is tiny and having the big normal one there is too much. I called the council but they said they don't offer the smaller ones anymore.

Anyone willing to do a swap? We live near Downhills Park, towards Tottenham.

Thanks, Lucy

Just ask veolia to swap.
I could be wrong but I don't think they ever offered smaller size black ones, just the green ones. We wanted both in smaller size as we throw away very little, but could only get a small green one. Veolia weren't even delighted to give us that, so good luck.

Agreed, on both bins - and it took us three goes to get a small green bin. Though Homebase and B&Q sell small-size wheelie bins, they only come in all-over green, plus they might not fit onto the refuse lorry bin-lifting hooks.

Yes, I have small versions of both, much neater. I did have to offer my firstborn and swear allegiance to the lord of the wheelies to get them, mind you. They're easily big enough for a 1-2 person household, though if we've had a big week or a bit of a clear out the general refuse bin gets filled up a bit too quickly thanks to the fortnightly collections.

There's the option of leaving packaging at the shop where you bought the stuff.

How often do people have a general clear out?
Once again this method of reducing costs by disguising it as encouraging recycling.....has resulted in a crude one size fit all solution.

I refused to have two bins in my 'front garden' which is barely 1 m deep (window ledge to front wall). Instead I have one small general waste wheelie and get given green bags for the recycling. I HAD TO INSIST FOR THIS!!!!!
If they change the system I'll just dump waste in the general street bins. I have very little since I compost all veg and don't use plastic shopping bags - It may sound uncivil but I don't think the people in charge really care. I do, but they are just ticking boxes. We've got wheelie bins all over the pavements on Napier rd where there were once shops and there are no front gardens. And then there are the streets that are on an incline like Steele rd so that there is no where to store the bins without schlepping them up a series of steps...so they too sleep on the pavement.

Stand your ground and insist that you get the small bin you are entitled to!

Thanks for all the replies!  I'm going to give ringing Veolia another try....
