Cafe Tramp - Has Anyone Been?
Just wondering if anyone has been to Cafe Tramp after all the pre-opening hype?

Trudy and I went in for drink to see what the place is like. We ordered a glass of wine and a marguerita and asked also for some nibbles - padron peppers and some olives. It was a Thursday and there was a small live jazz combo near the front door. Where we sat, near the back, it was audible but not intrusive.
The waitress was very friendly and attentive (and seemed to be personally committed to the success of the place). She said there would be live music every Thursday. The back-up she got from the kitchen was much faster than from the bar. It was not crowded but perhaps at that time of day more of the customers wanted drinks than wanted food.
I found the unusual decor hard to characterise. The peculiar taste reminded me of various places I have seen in the USA but those were all made of modern materials got up to look old whereas Tramp seems to have been put together (with great care and trouble) from recycled material. The panelling, light fittings and pictures are not antiques nor even reproduction antiques but they certainly create a space unlike anything I have seen anywhere else.
I have not yet tried the food at Tramp but the menu looked interesting and I am sure the moment will come.
Finally, noone should go there without experiencing the beautiful lavatory and its wash basin. This splendid retreat, did not (when we there) have a sign of any kind on the door and we had to be directed there by the waitress.

Apparently men should all go to the Fountain on West Green Road. I've seen a picture of the fancy men's toilets there - all gleaming marble. If you want to compare it with the ladies', wait until a match day when they turn the ladies' into a men's too (having experienced the Fountain's ladies' loos before I was quite happy to wait until I got home).

Thanks for this information Sarah. I just looked at the Fountain's web-site but, sad to say, despite having no fewer than 44 photographs (mostly about their hotel rooms) it keeps the gleaming marble well hidden. Perhaps you should mention this lost opportunity to the manager when next you visit the bar!

I can't wait for them to finish the refurb. It's my local, but I tend to go just to pick up food from Kata. I keep hoping one day they have some decent ales on tap - that and nice loos might entice me to eat in!

I went earlier this week. Here's what i thought (scuse the brevity - ipad keyboard)
The place looks great, lots of thought and interesting detail. Nice to have a place to eat on the strip with a different feel (relaxed) to the kebab restaurants
Waiting staff friendly and attentive
Music was a bit too smooth jazz funk for my liking, and a tad too loud.
Octopus starter is delicious. Very tender. Lots of flavour
My friend had the aubergine main which looked lovely and tasted v good.
I had the chicken which was middling
Parsnip dessert needs some liquid with it as the parsnip makes your mouth feel dry, but good flavours.
We asked the chef about how the dessert was cooked and gave feedback about the food. He's travelled a lot and is mixing influences from different places. A passionate guy.
Prices... Seemed reasonable... Maybe cos have had a couple of chrimbo meals in west end and forked out a packet for those.
Verdict: some decent food that could do with a bit of tweaking and some really good food in an imaginative setting.
Good to have em on green lanes

Four of us went on Tuesday. This was a much antispated visit, we spoke to the owner in Feburary who was trying to get it open for Valentines day. We didn't order hors d'oeuvres, we opted for steak, lamb chops, sea bass and aubergine. This all arrived reasonably promptly and was very good. The house wine was very drinkable and we ended with fig crumble and the tarte tatin. The fig crumble was exceptionally good.
I found the service a little bit perplexing. It was certainly friendly and attentive, there might have been a couple of things lost in translation but all in all it added to the quirkiness of the place.
Along with many in this thread I think they have got the pricing wrong. It's not that I haven't paid £26 a head for two couses with a glass of wine, I have, just not on Green Lanes. We will be back but perhaps not quite as often as we would like.

Went to celebrate a special event, a birthday. House rosé wine very drinkable. In place of hors d'oeuvres, chargrilled bread and olive oil offered on the house. Open asparagus and mushroom lasagne very good,
roast aubergine and sweet potato was well presented. Generous sides, could be shared. Service charge wasn't added though mentioned on the bill.
Will be back but perhaps not quite as often as we would like and will be looking out for further menu updates.
Service was friendly and attentive, the waitress/manager was happy to answer questions and field suggestions about Tramp's future development.

We just visited Tramp for the first time for a date night and we loved it!
The host was lovely and very attentive and the décor stylish and interesting. We had the cheapest bottle of wine from the menu (£22) which was very drinkable. We shared the sea bass carpaccio starter which was delicious, great combination of flavours - tangerine, mint, rocket and tomato. I then had the lamb shank served with polenta and green salad and Ben had the steak (medium/rare) served with salsa verde and chose chips over salad. Both were cooked perfectly and the portion sizes were generous. We went for the chocolate fondant for dessert on the manger's recommendation which was super rich and gooey, perfect for sharing!
As the other reviews suggest, it is more expensive than other places on Green Lanes but definitely worth it in our opinion, a stand out restaurant in the area. We're planning to go back for breakfast, the menu looks amazing. The manager is also planning something special for Valentines Day... would recommend a visit!

Have wanted to go for ages. Cool looking place and v.friendly staff, but pretty disappointed with the food and service. Got the order mixed up in a couple of different ways. Toast arrived so burnt it was inedible. Pancakes were oddly sour. Not cheap either. May give them another chance, but much prefer Moka (had some really fantastic food there recently. Osama, their chef, is very talented. Nice guy too.)
