I could hear the sirens at the top of Warham so thanks for the info John. Hope everyone is OK

I went past there about half an hour ago and a fire officer was up a ladder bringing people out of the building. Didn't see or smell any fire but lots of fire engines, police and ambulances there. I'm hoping everyone is ok.

There was smoke seeping out under the roof tiles.

Cars pouring down Beresford Road which has been unusual for a few weeks/months. Hope no-one is hurt - obvs.

HoL's Liz Ixer was our intrepid reporter on the scene:

I chatted with the fireman as I was passing on the way home and there were no casualties. A lady and two very young children had been in the top floor flat. Liz reported that the two children were brought out at a very early stage. The firemen told me that the lady was brought out later by the fire service. After declining a window exit, she was brought out under cover down the stairs.

Hewitt Road is closed off completely. Northbound traffic is rerouted vis Harringay Road, Southbound via Turnpike Lane and West Green Road.

I wasn't going to mention that the firemen told me that the occupant of the flat had set fire to the building herself. However, the Standard have now reported that the lady has been arrested under suspicion odf arson and endangering life.

(Of course we're glowing with pride that Liz's photo is the lead in the article!)

The occupant who was arrested was not the same person who was rescued with the two children. The young family are waiting for temporary accommodation by Haringey Council. I can only hope  that this accommodation will be appropriate and adequate to their needs. I will keep you posted.

Thanks Con.

The children are fine. I and others helped the lady taking care of them (they were from the flat below, I gathered) get help from police and paramedics.. She had brought them out as soon as she realised what was happening.

Hi Liz

The lady lives with us and she was glad to be home about twenty minutes ago. She told me that she heard a commotion outside the door of the flat and thought it was the people who live on the same landing. They are somewhat chaotic. She brought the children into the kitchen to and say people waving across the street. Her and the two children were frightened but were oblivious to the fire in the building. She heard the buzzer and thought it was someone coming to help with the neighbours so she let them in. It was only when two men ran in that she realised there was a fire.

The mother was complaining about the neighbours as she left the flat this morning. all three have been given emergency accommodation in Barnet.
