Any Wood Workers Out There?
Sadly I have had to take down my pear tree. It seems to have died. The trunk is still upright, 3-4m top to toe. I wondered if there are any wood workers out there that might be able to make something from the wood? If there are get in touch. Seems a shame to just chop it down and that be the tree's legacy.

Until last year I too had a large pear tree that was at least 80 years old. For various reasons it had to go and, as I learned that pear wood is among the hardest ever likely to grow in an English garden (50% harder than English oak on the Janka scale), I fondly envisaged that I could have the trunk planked and perhaps make some furniture from the wood. Moreover, I have a carved sculpture from pear wood that I bought years ago in Moravia.
Imagine my distress when the professionals who felled the tree found that the trunk was completely hollow having rotted from the ground up over many years. In the end, all I had from the tree is fond memories and and huge quantity of excellent firewood.
The pictures show the standing trunk, the felled trunk, some slices of the trunk and the Moravian sculpture. I wish you better luck than I had.

I'm not sure whether such things still exist, but if so, wood working/carpentry teachers at further education colleges would probably love something like this. Sorry you lost a tree.
