Hi all,
Walking past the now empty site of Next on the retail park noticed a great deal of deconstruction going on inside...
I wondered if this was the beginning of this :http://www.planningservices.haringey.gov.uk/portal/servlets/Applica...
Or just normal clearing out?

Agreed! Looks like it's confirmed: https://www.mylondon.news/whats-on/shopping/exactly-aldi-opening-3-...
It is. Aldi stuff is excellent and their staff get better pay than other supermarkets
Also they stock more UK supplied products than many so called UK Supermarkets
You should also see some of Sainburys prices adjust/align with those of Aldi...
Arent Sainsburys prices the same in every store? I've never noticed a difference between website and in store prices
I don't think so.
And then there are promotions which apply to certain outlets.
Its the same with food outlets at airports and certain rail stations where prices can often be extortionate since we have time to kill and money to spend in the shopping mall and food court in waiting areas with few seats.
Prices are usually higher in "local" or "express" format stores but this applies to most retailers. Possibly more significant is the reduced product range meaning that the very cheapest items; or larger multi-packs won't be available.
I visited Sainsbury's in Hornsey the other week
First time visited one for years
Hovis loaf was 10p extra to Tesco's
Milk was coppers dearer
As was in house Cakes
Nice easy to use store, with parking opposite
Did notice the large number of Flats behind
Which must be adding income to the Borough
When my late, lamented uncle (who retired in 1982!) was the stock manager of Sainsbury's enormous shop in Norwich, one of his tasks was to visit other supermarkets early in the day to discover what was on special offer. He could then decide whether to follow suit.
I go to Sainsbury's purely because it's convenient but I have noticed the quality decline a lot in recent years - both in products and service so I am happy that another supermarket is providing some competition. I've never been to Aldi so don't have an opinion on them but willing to give them a try. I'm also annoyed that Sainsbury's has been lax during the pandemic by allowing so many customers into their store without masks so hope Aldi will be stricter on that
