Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Going past the park yesterday and looking at the closed off area and it seemed a lot bigger than previous years (and the fence more substantial). I don't remember it going so far towards Manor House in the past, and maybe a bit further north.

Is it bigger than previously or am I imagining this?

Don't know but it sure as hell gets in the way of my daily 5k.

I noticed this as I walked to the tube station yesterday and today. And wondered what we the local residents get out of hosting concerts there? Our park is out of bounds for a fortnight. Then the grass and the fencing is wrecked for months, with huge amounts of rubbish everywhere. Last year the fencing around the children's playground was there for weeks, if not months. Who pays for mending fences, and getting the park back in order? And are the profits from the events ring-fenced for anything in particular?
The profits are ring-fenced for the Parks Service.
Finger crossed now they've done so many improvements they'll invest the money in permanent staff..
They've built internal exit way coming out at Manor House this year to attempt to avoid the problems caused by everyone streaming out onto seven sisters road in past years. They sent a circular round detailing changes/improvements.

As stated by Tris, cuts to local authority budgets by the government have forced them to look for income from the park and they period of rental is modest in comparison to the revenue generated. I do remember that the concerts were free when I was younger, but so was an education.

The period of rental is not modest over the year.

I make that about 8 weeks a considerable period of time for park users and local residents.  And if Haringey Council could achieve it they would rent the park out for two or three times that period.

They've also extended the temporary set-up area in that the road from Hornsey Gate down to the cafe is closed to traffic (inc Blue Badge holders) and is for the exclusive use of site traffic.

'bout 50 acres untouched by any festivals over this ways if anyone wants a nice bit of green.

The problem with your map is that it doesn't take into account the fact that the so called festival area is the flattest area of the park and is the most heavily used - obvious to anyone who walks through the park during the summer months.  Taking the area to the north of your line you have to deduct the lake, the sports ground, the staff yard and the nurseries - this considerably reduces the amount of ground available to the public.  And one also has to take into account that the most of this land is on a hill sloping down to Endymion Rd, sure this ground can be used but there is hell of a lot of difference playing a game of football on the flat ground to the south and a game on the steep slope to the north.

Parks are for People not for Profit and Event Promoters!

I reckon the flattest bit of the park would be the baseball/softball bit right? And if you went down there for a game of footy during festival season I think you'd have a lovely time. It's somehow supposed to be reserved for bat games but it's massive and empty most the time.

Anyway, Clissold is like 600 yards away. Big and very flat. Chestnuts and Downhills aren't far. We are spoilt for choice.

Parks are for the people, some of which like going to festivals. And the council has to pay for them somehow. They didn't get those nice new basketball/netball courts for free.

The people who live on Endymion Rd just LOVE the guys who play football there from about 4:30am....
