Hi Alice, thank you for your posting. May I ask how you cancelled your Virgin contract? I have been told by Virgin customer services that in order to cancel my contract, I will have to pay the outstanding 6 months left at a cost of £130.00+. I my mind that's not cancelation it's day light robbery.
Especially seeing as for each customer that leaves it increases available capacity for other customers and lessens the likelihood that they will leave too.
Hi John, I managed to leave Virgin (on Wednesday!) only 2 months into my contract and without penalty. It was during a 13 day outage, and I said they weren't honouring their side of the contract and that I wanted to leave without charges etc (since they could not give me a confirmed fix end date). They agreed and cancelled.
We moved to Virgin taking their maximum package (away from BT) briefly when we moved and had trouble getting TV reception through our aerial. We cancelled in the cooling off period as although it "worked" we were getting download speeds at 56k modem rates at peak times and latency of over a second. They finally explained after countless complaint calls it was due to high take up in our area and they hadn't upgraded the infrastructure yet to cope with that uptake - they also couldnt offer when it would be resolved. We went back to BT and have fantastic speed and back to ~30ms latency although we had to spend a bit of money getting a new aerial. I don't like BT's constant in contract price rises but the whole market is doing that at the moment so it can't be avoided.
