Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The former police station in St Ann's Road is on fire. Fire fighters had to batter down the front door to get in.  It doesn't seem as if anyone was in the building but I cannot be sure of that. I was just passing so took this photo.

Unfortunately we're talking Haringey planning department, so who knows what will happen? (Puts tin hat on and waits for the resident defender of the councils honour to bite)

I take it the last inhabitant's ghost rang 999?

I went to school in the 70s at St Anne's and have taken my sons to the police station when it was open a few years ago , I was so sad it was closed down and am gutted this lovely building has been ruined I hope they do investigate properly as empty buildings setting alight on their own doesn't really happen
Richard. Woukd it be OK to share this on a London Fire Brigade group?

Yes, it's fine to share my photo with that group.

Thanks Paul/ Richard, lets not let the property developer get away with this

You're jumping to a lot of conclusions there with no actual evidence.  Who's to say it wasn't kids, or smack-heads?  I think that's far more likely.

Quite unlikely on a staffed working building site. Both of those groups don't want to get caught.

There's a fake news report in the Haringey Advertiser: "Firefighters battle suspicious blaze at derelict Haringey police st..."  I have commented there that it is not derelict, just empty.  Still waiting for my comment to filter through.  I do hope they can save the building, or at least the facade.  We need these grand old buildings to keep the sense of history alive (and because most new ones are just so bleeeargh).

"The fire badly damaged the first and second floor as well as the roof of the station." <- that was fortunate for the developer...

Boy I thought I was cynical....!
The developer here is One Housing Group, a reputable HA with a good track record.
The scheme here was a good one that kept much or the heritage aspects but also had brand new build that fit into the historic setting. It got permission back in 2016. See here below

The site is in a conservation area so lets hope that One Housing follows thru with the initial design and plans.

A bit of faith...common!
