Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Last chance to Support Living Wightman, go the extra yard & make your mark.
We can't be complacent, many leaflets have been dropped advocating no change, which will be the poorest outcome for residents across the Ladder,
this is the first time our lungs have been considered, don't let Haringey council muddy the water, we need to go for it now.
I'm sure there are other posts on interventions, but this is my reminder.

Haringey council's engagement survey asks for your opinion on ten different 'Packages' of options, each Package has between 5 and 14 options.
For each option you can click a button to indicate how strongly you support or oppose that option:
In total there are over 70 options across the ten packages, (yes really,)
so allow yourself time if you want to read all the accompanying details & wish to answer every question.
It is possible to simplify the options, if you just want to support Living Wightman's aims.
If all you want to do is indicate support for "Package WL4: Wightman Road Closed (Filtered)",
follow these steps:
• Go to https://www.research.net/r/GLATS and click Next
• Click No to "Would you like to comment on this Package (AW - Area-wide Improvements)" - then click Next
• Also click No & click Next for the next two Packages PC and GL
• Click Yes to comment on Package WL
• For Package WL1, click "I don't know/not applicable" for each option
• Also for Package WL2 and WL3, you can click "I don't know/not applicable" for each option (you can click Oppose to options WL2-01a and WL3-01a if you are against one-way)
• for Package WL4, click "Strongly Support" for all options
• Question 13* is where you can indicate your preferred package as WL4
(note that the question number may be higher than 13 if you clicked Yes to comment on any previous packages.)
• Click No & click Next for the last two Packages HE and SA
• The final question asks for your house number and postcode, this is just to allow the consultants to classify responses according to where they live (and stop the same household responding more than once!)
If you did want to comment on any of the other package options you can click Yes to any Package and then support or oppose the options as you wish. Most of us are strongly opposed to one-way (package WL2 and WL2) and generally support the various area-wide traffic calming and streetscape improvements and cycle schemes.
For Living Wightman the single most important goal is to maximise support for Package WL4 as this is the only option to ensure long-term drastic reduction of traffic on the worst affected Wightman Road.

So why did they come up as far as Lausanne when they could have u-turned more easily within yards of the junction where the road is wider ? And they don't do it now when Wightman road is open
No, these were just stupid motorists ( tautology alert
) who thought they knew better.

Now (as before) they just cut through to Wightman via a Ladder rung and head straight over the lights. And the queue to get back over the lights was probably backed up to the first road block! I'm sure there were mentions of this problem back at the time - there was no alternative route to the tip!

I saw this initially when drivers went up Warham and then realised they couldn't continue along the length of Wightman. Probably regulars on autopilot not looking at the signs. It dwindled hugely after about week 2

My husband was knocked off his bike on Wightman Road this morning. This may have been him, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear if there was more than once accident involving a cyclist this morning on Wightman; I am appalled at the high volume of traffic, the pollution and the lack of safe provision for cyclists on this road and I fully support the filtering option. Filtering this road and preventing people from literally dying from lung diseases or in traffic accidents is, in my opinion, a price worth paying the relatively slight inconvenience caused. Particularly because overall car usage is reduced when roads close. If the filtering option doesn't happen, I really hope something else does. Perhaps this road could be closed during certain hours. The current situation is really not acceptable.

Alice, sorry to hear about your husband, I hope he is ok. We live on Wightman and both cycle to the city and back every day. It is a treacherous road, the most dangerous of the whole journey. I really hope that local residents will put safety and improved air quality and quality of life for Ladder residents before the convenience of leaving it as it is. As part of the Living Wightman group I can confidently say that we will continue the battle to make huge improvements to WIghtman no matter what the result of the consultation is. The government and the mayor's office have made air pollution a big issue - Haringey Council has to step up to the mark and make some bold and courageous decisions and filtering Wightman is the only way to deliver real, dramatic and lasting change. The battle for Wightman Road continues.........

Alice this is devastating news, I hope your husband is recovering ok. I was cycling down Green Lanes on route to Railway Feilds, & wondered if it might be safer on Wightman, you've answered my question. If I do drive I do 20, it's a polite speed and allows better reaction times and curtesy to other drivers and cyclists. I wear a helmet and especially gloves to protect my hands which I know from experience are the only thing between you and the road, I say this mainly for others benefit
My son cycled down Wightman once and his bike jack knifed into a pot hole, any holes on Wightman need filling asap to avoid fatalities, the Duckets Common Stretch of GL is diabolical also, Caroline Russel was astounded on her visit last May.
I feel it would be encouraging for the police to observe and warn aggressive driving behaviour on Wightman Rd, we do not want any cycling fatalities in Harringay.

Hello,
I have just moved to harringay and have recently been made aware, only through worried residents, about the proposed closure of wightman rd.
I just really baffled. I understand wighman rd was closed once before. and the overwhelming consensus was that it was a disaster, however you want to dress it up. As you have had a working example of this closure, how are you going make sure it wont happen again.

No, it was slightly bad for motorists. That's it. We even recorded less pollution on the supposedly badly hit Green Lanes (which is back to being a car park in rush hour but nobody is complaining).

This is where traffic pollution is the worst, worse than wightman worse that the ladder, worse than st Ann's, but used by the most, Pedestrians, ambulances, cyclists, public's transport. This is our communal area our major artery.
Wightman or GL , this whole area needs to be tackled as one.
