Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

There's just been an apparently relatively minor incident on Green Lanes.

An affray between four lads on a bus spilled out on to Green Lanes and resulted in a non-fatal stabbing.

The incident happened by Abbey National between Warham and Seymour. Apparently traffic is down to one lane and pretty grim.

Thanks to Rob Chau for the info.

Thanks for this Hugh. There were a few rumours flying around the street. They sent a police dog up my road (of course) and we all had to stay out of the way while it searched the gardens. We were all wondering what was happening. Nothing like a little police action to get neighbours chatting...
Is it legal to take a picture of a police dog?
Only if its doing a poo in the Passage.
Al clear on the traffic now - back to two lanes
Hmmm... Reminds me of an incident in Nov 07. I was on the 29 and it just turned right at Manor House and I was sitting near the back - a couple of feet from the door on the other side in the passageway seat. Bus was full and in the standing pram wheelchair section a bunch of young teenage Asian boys started scuffling and pushing. Suddenly they all pushed like a scrum into the passage beside me and to my horror I saw a large carving knife - about 10 inch long which flashed past my face by a couple of inches. It was coming down in a stabbing motion, like something out of Psycho. I was so scared I leapt to the window and pressed myself against the wall. The hand holding the knife was restrained by the other boys from sticking it in someone who was down near the floor. There was shouting, the bus stopped, the doors opened and next minute the scrum of boys was tumbling out on to the pavement. Then the doors shut, but we didn't go anywhere as the police were called. I came too and found myself sitting on the lap of a very large young man - apologised (rather embarrasedly). Eventually we all got off the bus and got on another one behind. I never knew what happened to the boys.

As I was on my way into town for a night out and theatre I didn't hang around for police or anything, but continued my journey in a state of shock. Still get flashbacks to that shiny blade flashing past my face!
Good old 29- the original mobile zoo. I would've been terrified!!

Speaking of stabbings... I'm sure someone got stabbed in the hand outside lion king offie a few weeks ago! There was some kind of argument and then later when I popped out to the shop a dude was talking to the police all like 'yeah, he stabbed me in the hand man, I'm bleeding'. In the bloody hand. quite literally. :-s
Update from Hornsey Journal:

A man knifed in the chest during a row on a bus had to be airlifted to hospital on Thursday.

The 23-year-old was stabbed on the Route 141 travelling Northbound on Green Lanes, Harringay, before stumbling off the double-decker at the Abbey National bus stop near Seymour Road.

He is suffering from a punctured lung but his condition remains stable in hospital.

No arrests have been made.
Curious about new low-flying buzzwords, I consulted the Urban Dictionary. And was puzzled to read:
hullaboo: "A crazy get together where much craziness and laughter occurs".
Not much fun on the 141.

"Hullabaloo" according to the Concise Oxford, means 'a commotion or fuss'. With it's origin as a repeated 'Hullo' ('Ello 'Ello. What's all this nah?)
Wiktionary suggests 'uproar' and a possible Hindi/Urdu origin of the word.
Thanks - my use was certainly in OE/Wiktionary territory.
Not exactly "relatively minor " then :-(

Weren't the BBC cartoon promoters of the new 625-line service called Hullabaloo and Custard ?
Ya go with the info you're given John. We can be thankful it wasn't anything more serious at any rate.
Oh sure - wasn't criticising the accuracy. At the same time, it's scary that someone can get that close to death in the middle of the day on a bus.
