Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Drag queen or comedy ... Harringay's changing High St
Our High St if nothing else is very dynamic! The business offerings constantly evolve, particularly within the restaurant/bar sector. And they need to of course. Recently Blend brought in a pop up restaurant menu for the evenings. Some time back Brouhaha had done the same. Both have proved popular.
For Beans & Barley their shop has gone after just a year (as Harringay Local turns 2) and now they are looking for your ideas for entertainment based within their extended cafe area, with comedy a possibility. Board game evenings are another.
Now the restaurant Tramp is extending its offering from the occasional band night to cabaret, with a 'Young Drag Queen' act. It's not clear yet whether it will come with your mains or dessert but, it all kicks off at 9pm on the evening in question.
Whatever next? 
Interestingly, as Hugh's post shows, such shows were around in this area way back in the 60s.

That's right Matt, all kicks off at 9pm. You can come and enjoy a meal from 5:30pm and stay for the FREE Cabaret Show, or just rock up before 9pm when it starts and enjoy the show with a bevvie or two.
It's going to be fab-u-lous, so come and join us for dinner or just the show! ;)

Jolly well done to you, Kathy Tramp. Maybe you could also offer discounted brunches to transsexual crack whores to reinforce your commitment to this issue, lest any cynics be tempted to say that this is rather a dreary publicity stunt

You mean a male viewpoint?
And one that supports the notion that femininity/womanhood is a commodity or enhancement of the male - and in this case a costume, something to be worn or assumed...
I've never been to Tramp, I'm less likely to want to go now.

You are right, there is some terrible drag where the performer mocks women. But there is also drag where the performer uses their drag persona as a way to be powerful. Some women performers have also adopted this approach using hyper drag where they dress in a way which is an exaggeration of what women are expected to look like and how they are expected behave and use this to subvert stereotypes.
