Wanted: Postage Stamps for Charity
I am one of life's hoarders and cannot bare to see anything with value thrown away.
Years ago I collected used postage stamps for charity. They use them to sell overseas and raise money for various causes, RNIB was the one I sent them to originally.
Just before Christmas I stuck a post up and a fellow Harringay hoarder (Ruth) responded when I asked if anyone had any postage stamps that I could collect for charity. She and I have been talking about seeing if we might try for a more sustained campaign to collect anyone's used postage stamps.
So, we may find a few places to deliver them to (schools or other places), and we will let you know if we have anywhere we can drop them in future if any one is interested in saving their stamps for us. However, in the mean time, if anyone would be happy to save their stamps and periodically drop them at mine as they may be passing (or I can come pick them up) then please let me know and I can let you have my address if you do not already have it.
Every little helps, as they say!

Ha. Yes they are more valuable, and everything is welcome. If you want to drop them off some time I will message you, but also if you want to hold on until you have something more worthwhile to drop off once you have collected some more I am happy either way. Thanks!

Are stamps on postcards acceptable?

I don't get much stamped post at home but will save what I can. I will also save them at work for you, we get lots of stamped mail from Greece. I will also ask the receptionist at my former workplace to collect them for you. Will pop them through letterbox when I get a decent amount.

I don't know if you know this but there are charities that collect plastic bottle caps e.g. those from milk or water bottles. We send ours off from work and they are used to buy wheelchairs.

By the way you need to collect 325,000 bottle tops to raise £25 Its just not worth it.

I don't know how many bottletops you need for the one we send ours (at work) off to, but I think the point is that it's also saving them from going in landfill or ending up in the sea, and there are thousands of schools, offices etc collecting them so every little helps towards the greater goal. It must be worth it overall or they wouldn't collect them. When I was at school we used to save the little silver foil caps from glass milk bottles and the silver foil from Mr Kipling pies to buy guide dogs for the blind, we probably bought the equivalent of an ear or an eye on the grand scheme of things.
