Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

As you may well have noticed, there have been a few updates on the network overnight. The most obvious is the new look for the latest activity - avatars replaced by icons of dubious meaning and the adding of the first couple of lines for each activity.

I'm finding that hard to get used to.

Any thoughts from you guys?

Hugh, when I log onto the forum now it used to just automatically display the latest discussions across all forums. Now it displays the forums themselves and you have to choose to change it to "latest discussions" from a little tab above the table of forums. Is it possible to go back to the other way? Or am I using my computer incorrectly and actually everyone else just sees the latest discussions automatically? Cheers.
Yup, it is possible to change the default on that, John.

What do other folks think? What's teh default preference?
I have to say that I prefered it the way it was (with the pics and no summar of the posts). I do like the short intro on the original blog area though.
I preferred "Latest Discussions" as the default
Preferred it before : (
Not keen on the new icons.
Preferred everything as it was. See no advantages with new format. In fact it's more confusing.
I hate change too.
perhaps the change will be like the new facebook: when the initial changes happened, people joined groups to say they hated it, but after a while, they realised the new way is actually more user friendly?

(i prefer the old way too. the new icons are rubbish!)
I'm not keen on change that doesn't appear to improve the user experience and so far I'm not sure this change has

I like the photos and I'm not liking the beginning of comments appearing under your entry but it does get rid of that first impression on the site that someone is 'monopolising' the latest activity because their photo appears several times and possibly publishing the beginning of someone's contribution could enable people to decide whether its worth clicking through. Do people feel a little put off by the latest activity or do they like it?

This may be a good opportunity to ask people how they find what they want when they first come on the site. I tend to just look at latest activity but do people scroll down to forum discussions, do they use the tabs? Could we for example banish latest activity to a side bar and put the forums centre stage?
Like most people(?), my navigation of the site is driven by 'Latest Activity' (which creates problems if you don't check in for a day or so... ;-) ).
First impressions: missing the avatars (the new icons don't convey anything particularly useful?). Like the little preview though (if it works for Google and Microsoft Outlook...) as it saves a clickthrough on short comments and makes it quicker to scan the list. Presumably as each activity takes up more space, we don't see so many latest activities though...
Just realised you have to click on replied in the latest activity to get to the person's comment and not on title of the forum post. Doh!
