Royal Mail problems
I was working in the front room today when I heard the letterbox go. When I went to check there was a screwed up parcel delivery card, saying I had been out and need to pick up the parcel myself. There had been no attempt to knock or ring the doorbell.
Then I realised that this was a part needed for my plumber to repair the toilet this evening, which had been sent 'tracked' in order that it arrived in time. So now not only do I have to drive to Tufnell Park tomorrow to get it, but have to cancel the plumber put up with a non-working toilet until next week.
A neighbour had the same thing happen yesterday, so whether it is a rogue local delivery person, or general practice I don't know. I don't care how under pressure they are - this is not remotely a working service.
As well as this, I have recently been getting letters including Christmas cards bent in half to shove them through the slot - I asked the postman yesterday not to do it, but today it happened again.

I live in a maisonette in a block, all with our own entrances and No access restrictions. A couple of times I have received mail for other flats that I have then had to deliver myself. Once a small package, once a stack of three letters.
Then once I came across an older lady wandering around looking confused. She had had a fall while looking for the correct recipient of something that had been shoved through her door...

On the bright side, my local sorting office (Page Green) have sorted out their issues. There used to be two people working there, an older lady and a young guy Vadim. I'd go the next morning and often Vadim would be outside smoking and drinking coffee. The older lady would say "come back two hours" because he hadn't finished unpacking the bags that come in at 8 from the depot (also i would have already made myself late for work by being at the post office at 9, there was no way I could "come back two hours"), or "no, not here... 100% not here"
Once I went to the depot because I called up and they said "well if it's not at the post office it must be at the depot". But the staff there ranted and swore about how useless the post office was and told me it was definitely there, they were just useless so and sos.
Anyway there's just one person working there now, an Asian guy. He'll take a few cards at a time, disappear into the back and reappear promptly with everyone's parcels. Magic compared to how the service used to be...

I work from home and I am sure they don't ring the bell when they try to deliver packages. You can book re delivery though, you don't need to go all the way to the delivery centre. You can also authorise a neighbour to take in packages for you. I wouldn't worry too much they are going on strike next week anyway!

No its not the postal delivery staff...just the main post offices(many threatened with closure)

Has anyone discovered the telephone number of the Station Road, (Tufnell Park) Royal Mail depot? Not the recorded message central number, 03457 740 740, but the depot itself. I have visited this hopelessly inaccessible place twice in the past few days in pursuit of an undelivered package so I'd like avoid another fruitless trip if possible. Thanks.

I was given a phone number for the manager there to make a complaint, but when I tried to ring, it was 'out of order'.

Years ago I tried the ring the sorting office in Broad Lane Seven sisters - the phone range for some time, and then someone picked it up and said "Beep beep I am an answerphone...." I said "I don't think you are" and he hung up!

I managed to get through to a human on the central number, but all she said was that if my parcel wasn't at the post office (who said "100% not here" when what they meant was "100% can't be bothered looking for it") it must be at the depot. So I went to the depot, who got on the phone to the post office and asked for a while before telling me it was definitely at the post office.

Royal Mail's website gives 03456 021 021 as a contact number for the Tufnell Park delivery office. That looks like another generic number rather than being unique to Tufnell Park since it also appears in contact details for other offices.
The 0845 number that is given in other discussions on HoL (and was on the last 'can't deliver' card I received) is now defunct (and the recorded message saying so and adding that it's frequently phoned (!) gives no alternative).

Thanks, all. I have just tried the number you suggested, Gordon, and remarkably enough, someone answered and really quite quickly! She gave me the number (I have yet to test it), took details and has promised to email the sorting office. I shall ...er... keep you posted.
