Turnpike Lane station - how busy is it in the mornings?
I've not been on the tube for the past few weeks but I keep getting notifications from TFL about severe delays on the Piccadilly line. I'll be back on the tube again starting tomorrow so just wondering how busy it really is in the mornings compared to normal. Thanks

I haven't been to Turnpike Lane but I went to Manor House yesterday at about 10am and we were held at the ticket barriers for about 5 minutes to clear the platform because it was over crowded. Trains seem to arrive every 5-7 minutes. So if this is happening at 10am I imagine it's a lot worse at rush hour.

Pretty grim by all accounts according to some of my work colleagues. Trains are 15-20 minutes apart and impossible to board when they do arrive. I was coming home at 10pm this time last week and had to wait 30 minutes before I was actually able to board the 3rd train

I had a similar experience at Covent Garden and ended up leaving the station and finding an alternative route, as it simply seemed too dangerous down there. All they keep saying is 'delays due to the unavailability of trains', which is an understatement!

It's not great. On-going disruption for train repairs with no end in sight. Most days I check the departures board and trains are about every 10-15 minutes. No point even trying that at morning rush hour as it'll be packed.
I've taken to leaving as early as possible and heading to Hornsey Station for a National Rail train to Moorgate. Still not great as... well, it's National Rail so usually also a mess but there's a slightly better chance of making it to work vaguely on time. If you've got a travel card and can change back onto the tube at Highbury/Old Street/Moorgate, I'd recommend.

And the great news is it is going to be like this for another three weeks! I travel to Oxford Circus and am setting off an hour early every day as there have been a few days when I've been stuck at Manor House for over 40 minutes because the trains are all full and few people get off there. The interchange on to the Victoria Line at Finsbury Park can also be a nightmare so I change at Kings Cross instead but beware if you do this use the exit at the front of the platform not the middle or you go on an unfathomable walk of what seems like several miles! Another option is to take the bus to Finsbury Park and use the Victoria line, accessing the station via Seven Sisters Road rather than Station Place because the Station Place queues can be huge and aggressive. Setting off an hour early makes me just about able to cope with it all, and on the odd day has got me there early enough to grab a bacon sarnie and sit in Hanover Square.

Any particular reason why you're not getting on the Victoria Line to get to Oxford Circus? Agreed Finsbury Park can be a scrum but it's not as bad as trying to use the Piccadilly line at the moment and it's dead easy from Seven Sisters. I even get a seat on my way in to Euston some of the time at rush hour.

Errr yes.... the piccadilly only running at 50% service so the Victoria line is rammed, as above.
But it's too far and too much hassle to go back to seven sisters which would involve a 20 min walk to Turnpike Lane then a bus for me. On the days when Manor House has been quieter I get the Piccadilly line then change at kings cross for the Victoria line, which is still quicker than trying to change at Finsbury Park, or if it's busy I get the bus to Finsbury Park and wait ages to get in or to get on a train.
And the idea of it cocking up and being stranded at seven sisters and then having to get a bus into town from there is not one I want to have to think about!

I've been avoiding it generally but took a chance this morning at about 8.20ish and it was actually alright. Waited 3 mins for a train and managed to squeeze on. The trains were about 4 minutes apart at that point.
Coming home from Leicester Square daily at about 6pm-ish I haven't had any problems. It seems to be worse in the mornings though (and unpredictable).
The trouble I find is that you don't know until you get there - and then once you're there it's a long way to go to Finsbury Park/Hornsey if you discover that you aren't going to manage to get on a train!

When I was getting it last Tuesday they were advising people to take it in the opposite direction to catch the empty trains from Arnos Grove!

I haven't even tried. I've been getting the bus to work (which takes forever) and the train back from Moorgate in the evening. The train's been ok, any delays haven't been terrible and I've always got a seat.

I used to work at Moorgate and started getting the bus every day after a while because it was much easier and far less stressful than the packed First Crapital Connect train from Harringay, which suffered terrible delays and cancellations, it does take longer but being above ground and not packed in like a sardine made the journey quite pleasant. There are also some nice routes to walk home in the summer. I don't know if it's an option for you but it's only a 20min cycle to Moorgate.

I actually work in Farringdon, but get either the 341 or 141 as they seem much the same in terms of journey time. I prefer the bus to the tube but I have been late to work every day since taking it. I'd love to cycle (I did for years) but I have a hip problem that means I can't really.
