Autumn ambles through Tottenham
It being a beautiful, warm, Autumn day (perhaps one of the last?) I decided to walk to my destination in Waltheof Gardens yesterday, traversing 4 postcodes as I did (although very briefly in the case of N4 and N8 since that was just a walk from Warham down Seymour).
Into N15, I enjoyed the black cats of Conway before making my way to the Belmont Road entrance to Downhills Park. The park was looking gorgeous yesterday, still Summer although hints of Autumn are there
Having a few spare minutes I popped into the Downhills Park Cafe for an iced coffee. It was good to see it back, now serving breakfasts too, although I didn't have time to stop. The cafe was looking spick and span and service was friendly and quick. Try and make time to visit soon!
and don't forget Downhills has free tennis courts right next door!
Having dawdled too long, I crossed to Lordship Rec.
Didn't take me long to slow to a dawdle again as I approached the Moselle and looked towards Broadwater Farm.
Yes, I was late for my meeting and a bit hot but I think I'm going to enjoy watching the seasons change on my new weekly walk

The Moselle is looking well there Liz. It's been buried mostly, up our way - it crosses Mary Neuner Road at (the currently being demolished) Hornsy No. 1 Gasholder, then runs North on the back gardens of Hornsey Park Road before crossing into the High Road. You can see it's route on this screenshot from Haringey Friends of Parks Forum's River Moselle Walk booklet.
You could catch a not very interesting glimpse of the Moselle (at the arrow) where there is an access grate next to the disappearing Hornsey No 1 Gasholder, shown below.
The Hornsey Park Residents Association are campaigning to get the Moselle reopened as the area is redeveloped.

Yes, it was uncovered in Lordship Rec a couple of years ago. Lots of wildlife around and in the water. Let's hope Hornsey Park RA are successful.
There's a glimpse of its little sister, the Lesser Moselle, if you go to Tottenham Cemetery

Eugene, Liz - all that's missing from these enchanting views are the vineyards and the ruined castles.
Re the Lesser Moselle, the original Moselle / Mosella, I notice, is itself a diminutive of the Meuse / Mosa.

Yes, I can warmly recommend The Hub also, good food, friendly welcome. Nice place, as is the Rec itself
