Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

COFFEE WITH COUNCILLORS - 4th Saturday of every month at St.Paul's Church, Cavendish Road

On Saturday 27 August, Emine and I held our first Coffee with Councillors' forum.  This was at St. Paul's Church on Cavendish Road. In summary, we want to use the surgery time as flexibly as possible so residents can come and talk about and discuss issues in the ward and what can be done to tackle them.

We were really pleased that residents took us up on our first invitation. We had a long discussion about the rubbish and dumping in the ward, the state of Ducketts Common, and abandoned vehicles on Denmark Road, and the proposed housing development on Hampden Road.  We have a list of actions to follow up as a result.

We plan to hold this event on the 4th Saturday of every month and really hope people will come along.

We will, of course, always take up individual cases through surgeries, but this experiment is an effort to extend wider community engagement so we can work with you on issues, sharing ideas to make improvements, and to be accountable. We want to keep up a dialogue and will report back on how things go.

Hope to see some of you at St. Paul's Church. We are really grateful to St. Paul's Church for being supportive in this.

Thanks for posting this Zena.

We would love as many residents as possible to come as we know a lot of people miss the opportunity the Area forums used to provide. The hall is big enough if a resident has specific confidential casework for one of us to have a table to specifically deal with those issues. There will be coffee, tea and biscuits and plenty of debate about issues that concern us all. After each session as Zena said we will post on here to keep the conversation going. This is a different way of doing surgeries and I hope residents will find it useful.

Prefer beers with councillors. Then it's up to the publican to throw out anyone being rowdy or abusive. That's what used to be wrong with the area assemblies.

Once upon a time I was a regular AA attender before Cllr Adamou led me astray with her strong ouzo-laced kaphés twice monthly at the Falkland Centre. So sorry, Zena and Emina, but I'm sticking with Gina.

I should have added the time! Its from 11am. The church is booked for an hour, but we hope to be able to extend this further.
